BACKGROUND

Avant International LLC is a boutique export control consulting firm specializing in export control matters, from jurisdiction determination and classification to licensing and everything in between. Our mission is to help companies understand and comply with export controls such as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

Avant was formed to help companies understand and comply with export control regulations that can often be bureaucratic and complex. Helping clients navigate these abstruse regulations is our passion. Seeing our clients confident in their compliance with all applicable export control laws and regulations is our goal.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will report to a Senior Consultant on our team. The Consultant will perform detailed jurisdiction and classification on various products across a wide range of industries, identify and advise clients on the use of licenses, exceptions, or exemptions, and participate in the investigation, analysis, and resolution of compliance matters.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

• 3-5 years in Export Compliance or 1-3 years in export compliance and previous consulting experience
• Trade compliance expertise and operational experience in export control, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Equivalent experience with regulatory regimes outside the US may be considered
• Manage and be accountable for your own time, projects, and timelines
• Proven analytical skills, including: 1) gap analysis/root cause analysis 2) fact-based findings and recommendations 3) continuous improvement 4) data manipulation, reduction, and analysis 5) business analysis
• Work independently and with team members, exercise critical, creative, and self-directed thinking
• Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, and professional manner
• Strong organizational skills
• Attention to detail
• Potential travel upwards of 50%, including international travel

STRONGLY PREFERRED

• Ability to make compliance fun and engaging
• Valid passport
• Multiple language skills
• Strong export classification skills
• Familiarity with SAP GTS, RPS screening software, and working with large data sets
• Experience in import compliance, including HTS classification

EDUCATION Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred, or equivalent combination of appropriate education and work experience.
