What You Will Do
As a founding Generalist Applied AI / ML Engineer at Avy, you will play a central role in bringing our product vision to life and have exceptional prospects for growth in a fast-paced environment. This is a hands-on role where you will have the chance to wear multiple hats and build high-quality software that bridges the gap between humans and computers. Your work will involve:
- Innovative Implementation: Bring your ideas to life in a dynamic team setting, embracing various roles in the early stages.
- Leverage both proprietary and open source software, models, and datasets, potentially with modification or fine-tuning
- Write code that controls ML-powered agents using both direct calls and common frameworks.
- Prompt engineering and creative use of LLMs, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and other techniques that are still being developed and evolved.
- Technological Exploration: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI and ML, assessing their applicability to our products and future directions.
Skills You Will Need **

- Intellectual curiosity combined with a pragmatic, results-driven approach.
- Ability to select appropriate technological solutions, balancing innovation with practicality.
- Strong communication skills, capable of collaborating with a diverse team whose strengths are in engineering, product, design, and business, not only AI or math.
- Skilled in general software engineering. You should have a strong command of TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, and at least one typed language like Go, C++, Rust, etc.
- Experience with LLMs, both open-weight and commercial.
- Experience with machine learning APIs.

- Experience fine-tuning open-weight LLMs and other models
- Experience in an AI- or ML-related industry or role
- Experience (either paid or via projects) exploring agents, assistants, or other self-directed, adaptable software
- Experience with common databases, including NoSQL and SQL databases such as PostgreSQL and SQLite
- A degree in computer science, math, physics, statistics, neuroscience, data science, or other technical fields is desired but not required
