    Job Description

    FUNCTION AS A PART OF A TEAM WITH THE CLASSROOM TEACHER TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT IN A CLASSROOM SETTING IMPLEMENT CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION BY ASSISTING THE TEACHER IN INSTRUCTING STUDENTS OR WORK INDEPENDENTLY WITH AN INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP OF STUDENTS WORK COOPERATIVELY AND COLLABORATIVELY WITH STUDENTS, STAFF, PARENTS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO BEST MEET THE EDUCATIONAL GOALS OF AWAKENING SEED AND FURTHER A SENSE OF COMMUNITY WITHIN AND BEYOND THE SCHOOL

    MAJOR TASKS: HELP CHILDREN BECOME INTERESTED IN THE WORLD AROUND THEM AND BE ABLE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THAT WORLD BY CREATING A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT WHICH ENABLES ALL INDIVIDUALS TO REALIZE HIS OR HER HIGHEST HUMAN POTENTIAL, NOT ONLY FOR SELF BUT FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS

    • Help students develop positive self-concepts

    • Communicate enthusiasm and a love for learning

    • Demonstrate sensitivity to needs and feelings of students

    • Demonstrate good rapport with students, staff, and parents

    • Use acceptable written and oral expression

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: SUPPORT CLASSROOM TEACHER(S) AND IMPLEMENT AWAKENING SEED SCHOOL’S DISCIPLINE POLI- CIES AND PROCEDURES IN ALL INTERACTIONS WITH CHILDREN

    • Attend to routine classroom tasks (preparing materials, responding to journals, reading with children, etc...)

    • Helps to provide a clean, healthy environment by following Health Department Regulations ASSIST LEAD TEACHER IN CLEANING THE CLASSROOM ON A REGULAR BASIS

    • Help monitor/conduct student activities (field trips, all-school meetings, etc...)

    • Operate standard office equipment and instructional equipment available in the classroom Support and implement Awakening Seed’s guidance policies

    • Evaluate and intervene in situations that are potentially dangerous

    • Help to maintain positive and productive classroom behavior

    • Help children to develop and use positive strategies for conflict resolution

    • Model appropriate social skills

    • Model for and helps children to develop open-mindedness and to embrace diversity

    • Perform playground duty as required

    • Perform other duties as assigned (kitchen cleanup, juice, etc...)

    MAINTAIN OPEN AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS

    • Participate in at least one written and verbal self-evaluation and goal setting conference per year with the Director or the Assistant Director

    • Attend and participate in staff development meetings

    • Participate in at least 18 hours of professional development per year

    • Work collaboratively with other Seed staff to resolve personal and professional conflicts

    • Read and follow the policies and procedures in Awakening Seed’s Staff Handbook

    • PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY DIRECTORS
