    FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN STATE COLLEGE is accepting resumes in search of a CAMPUS GROUNDS MAINTENANCE LEAD to join our team of exceptional employees. This position is responsible for outdoors work performing a range of plant and landscape design as well as involvement in campus maintenance.

    The Department of Facilities Planning and Management aggressively pursues the department's mission to develop, implement and manage the College's facilities and grounds in order to offer a healthful, safe and secure environment for students, faculty and staff. Facility planning provides the technical knowledge and experience to conceptualize design and construct projects necessary to continue Florida SouthWestern State College's mission.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: 

    • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in horticulture, landscape architecture or a related field.
    • Three (3) years of experience in parks maintenance, golf course, or resort landscaping and management, or a related field. Appropriate combination of education and experience may be substituted.
    • Possession of, or eligible to obtain, a valid Florida Driver’s license and the ability to travel independently throughout the College service district.
    • Serves as a liaison to outside contractors and vendors
    • The ability to perform or oversee the following tasks:
      • Map out areas for irrigation installation
      • Installation of pipes, lines, pumps and electrical timers

    THIS POSITION ROUTINELY REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO SEE, HEAR, AND SPEAK. ROUTINELY REQUIRES SITTING, BENDING, STOOPING, WALKING. ON OCCASION, INCUMBENTS MAY BE REQUIRED TO LIFT 50 OR MORE POUNDS.

  • Qualifications
    1.  Basic knowledge of Mechanics, Hydraulics, Pneumatics & Electrical etc.
    2. Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and facilities.
    3. Knowledge of safety and OSHA requirements.
    4. Have effective oral and written communication skills.
    5. Ability to deal fairly and effectively with all associates.
    6. Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
    7. Required to pass written test achieving 80% minimum per Advancement Program for employees aspiring to become General Maintenance.
    8. Three on-the-job knowledge application tests: consists of actual troubleshooting and repair of plant equipment. In addition to one on-the-job project test, consisting of modification or installation of actual plant equipment as specified in Advancement Program for employees aspiring to become General Maintenance. All four tests will be supervised and evaluated by the General Maintenance Leadman concerning any findings and whether the General Maintenance has passed.
    9. Must be available for shift work, may be required to work overtime before or after regularly scheduled shift or on weekends.
    10. Required skills include welding (mig, GMAW, oxygen/acetylene), carpentry, plumbing and forklift operation.
    11. Achieved 80% on written test for OSHA Forklift Drivers.
    12. Achieved 80% on maintenance obstacle course Forklift driving test.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     

    1. Must be able to tolerate conditions of elevated temperature, dust and draft.
    2. Ability to walk, climb, bend from the waist and kneel for extended period of time.
    3. Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs. on a regular basis and up to 100 Lbs. periodically (with assistance).
    4. Ability to drive forklift, operates machines & work with tools.
