    BACKGROUND: Tallahassee Community College’s Adult Education (AE) Program is currently looking for qualified part-time instructors for our Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED® Test Preparation Classes in Leon County. These programs emphasize basic skills such as reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The AE Program also helps adult learners gain the knowledge and skills they need to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. We seek individuals who have practical work experience and backgrounds to help facilitate a rich learning environment for diverse adult education populations.

     

    MAJOR FUNCTION:  General responsibilities include: teach engaging lessons with best instructional strategies that meet program goals, create and submit lesson plans according to Florida Adult Education Curriculum Frameworks, incorporate contextualized instruction using occupational information and data, maintain accurate class rosters, submit attendance records on a timely basis, manage multilevel classes, report student withdrawals, and participate in ongoing professional development. The Adult Education Instructor will be responsible for achieving student outcomes to meet program goals. The incumbent must adhere to all College policies and procedures and division and departmental procedures.

     

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, from an accredited institution and one (1) year of relevant experience teaching and/or tutoring adults related skills such as reading, writing, language arts, math, science, social studies, digital literacy, career and education planning, and test-taking skills. Preference will be given to those with specific teaching experiences in adult education.

     

    SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Ability to deliver and instruct the adult education content areas. Skilled in teaching students and facilitating a rich learning environment for diverse populations. A sincere desire to help students maximize their academic and personal potential. Ability to use a variety of strategies that meet varying abilities of adult students, including differentiated instruction. Ability to make decisions concerning student instruction. Knowledge of adult learning theory and practice. Ability to create engaging lesson plans and activities using best practices. Knowledge of the adult education content areas. Ability to communicate to adult students in an effective manner. Knowledge of adult student characteristics. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and its implications for the department. General knowledge of Microsoft Office, including OneDrive and SharePoint. Ability to work independently or as a part of a team, and make independent decisions. Ability to work and communicate with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Ability to maintain organized and accurate records. Ability to be self-motivated, self-directed and creative. Excellent human relationship skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to critically assess situations and make sound judgments. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to communicate effective, verbally and in writing, to other key stakeholders. Ability to interact with other staff appropriately.

  • Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in electrical Engineering plus a minimum of 5-10 years directly related experience in the design of DC/DC Power Converters and AC/DC Power Converters, including EMI design, converter design, over-voltage protection design, over-current protection design, power-factor correction design and BIT design. Knowledgeable of applicable power/environmental specifications such as MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 and guidelines such as MIL-HDBK-454. Demonstrated ability to design and meet applicable safety requirements including hi-potential, leakage current and safety grounding. Knowledge of three-phase & single-phase AC power distribution systems, and 28 VDC & 270 VDC power distribution systems. Knowledge of Radar electronics a big plus

    Must have a background that would permit the U.S. Department of Defense to issue a Secret clearance when necessary for work on a project that requires such a clearance.
