General Summary
The accountant is responsible for various functions within the accounting department, including management/board report preparation assistance, balancing, reconciliations, funds management, regulatory reports, and various tasks assigned by the Comptroller.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for preparing, reviewing, and imaging monthly account reconciliations
- Responsible for daily balancing of various accounts, including Fed, IBS, MoneyGram, and ATMs
- Manages excess or deficient funding position of bank on a daily basis
- Balances the general ledger daily and corrects non-post items
- Works with Senior Accountant to prepare and submit quarterly regulatory reports
- Assists the Senior Accounting Clerk with payables and other duties, as needed
- Assists in managing the accounts payable function with signing and reviewing checks
- Maintains Accounting Sharepoint site
- Prepares monthly reports for management, including loan loss reserve report and yield analysis
- Manages various asset accounts and sub-ledgers, such as securities, bank owned life insurance, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses, and reconciles them to the corresponding general ledger accounts
- Calculates capital ratios
- Prepares cash flow
- Prepares classified asset/tier 1 ratio report
- Assists Senior Accountant with compilation and distribution of monthly management report package
- Assists the Comptroller in maintaining the core banking general ledger system, specifications, and general ledger reporting system.
Working Conditions
- Generally good, with little exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, dust or other adverse factors.
- Considerable effort and eyestrain from continued checking on the accuracy of all work leaving the department.
Minimum Level of Education
- A two-year degree in accounting or finance
- Two years or more of work experience in a accounting, bookkeeping or finance

- The ability to develop a thorough understanding of bank specific software

- Have an excellent knowledge of Excel and a working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications
