REPORTING TO: Sr. Accounting Manager
REGULAR WORK SCHEDULE: The work week is Monday through Sunday and the regular workdays/hours are as agreed/assigned by the direct supervisor based on business/department needs
POSITION SUMMARY
The Cost Accountant understands the principles of financial accounting and is responsible for analyzing DIS’ expenditures, creating reports, and advising the management team on improving efficiency and reducing financial waste. They review a company’s financial documents and recommend new accounting procedures that could improve cash flow and make it easier to understand and itemize expense reports. The Cost Accountant uses financial software to identify inconsistencies and irregularities in operational costs and models the impact of possible budget changes on DIS’ financial health. Their role is to improve financial efficiency and give data-driven advice to company leadership.
To be successful, they must demonstrate safe work habits, be detail-oriented, have excellent time management skills, be able to problem solve/troubleshoot independently, and have exceptional attendance. The Cost Accountant must be able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency while maintaining excellent internal customer service. The Cost Accountant must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions and will work well alone or as part of a team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Collect and analyze data about DIS’ operational costs
2. Set standard costs of manufactured goods
3. Develop and analyze cost standards
4. Carry out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis
5. Establish costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, etc.
6. Perform overhead and direct labor analysis
7. Evaluate and recommend changes to or create and implement DIS’ processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit
8. Advise executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data
9. Support other company accountants as needed
10. All other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 2-4 years experience in a manufacturing environment
· A CMA is preferred
· Advanced knowledge of mathematics and statistics with an understanding of organizational accounting concepts and strong financial analysis skills
· Ability to prepare financial reports and give recommendations based on available data
· Knowledge of financial reporting software tools and ERP software
· In-depth knowledge of financial guidelines, laws. and regulations
· Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
· Technical aptitude, attention to detail, and excellent follow-up
· Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel, and Outlook
· Highly motivated, driven, and self-starting
· Excellent time management & organizational / networking skills
· Strong communication skills including writing, speaking, and active listening with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff
