BGIS is currently seeking a SAFETY ENGINEER to join the team in EAGLE MOUNTAIN, UT.

The ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ENGINEER is responsible for assisting in the development of procedures and management of the health and safety programs to protect people from illness and injury and property from damage. The position contributes to the strategic development of the Global Health and Wellness Plan and proactively promotes, monitors, executes, and continuously improves/increases team member engagement creating a culture of Safety. The ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ENGINEER leads others positively exemplifying BGIS values.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
INCIDENT MANAGEMENT
• Audit completion of incident reports as initiated by the supervisor.
• Escalate incidents per the Incident Reporting Policy.
• Ensure all incidents and injuries are correctly entered and completed in the database.
• Communicate with Human Resources to provide worker’s compensation claims management expertise.
• Validate the duty of care is followed and the team members receive good care following work injuries
• Provide guidance for root cause investigations.
• Conduct review of incidents with the management team and HSE professional, on site as needed.
• Oversee implementation of Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA).
• Partner with team members and managers on near miss and hazard observation reporting.
• Contribute to the completion of other key initiatives as assigned.
PERFORMANCE METRICS AND COMMUNICATION
• Provide insight into monthly performance reports and customized reports for EHS globally, regionally and on a site-by-site basis.
• Contribute to quarterly initiatives globally.
• Provide performance data upon request.
• Participate in progress, safety meetings, and other scheduled meetings and notices to facilitate the sharing of relevant EHS information with project stakeholders.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders in project white board meetings, pre-job brief, or other relevant work planning meetings.
• Conduct monthly KPI review and provide results to Facilities and ICM as requested.
TRAINING AND AUDITING
• Contribute to design and implementation of team member safety and injury prevention programs.
• Provide compliance reports for HSE training as requested.
• Plan training delivery as Instructor Led, online or third party, and method of delivery will be agreed upon prior to delivery. HSE Team will provide assistance in identifying online and/or third-party resources as needed.
• Provide training topics as scheduled by supervisor to staff with course topics that meet current OSHA requirements and current needs.
• Attend client training as reasonably requested.
• Share expertise in development of EHS risk assessments and associate processed and procedures.
• Provide annual schedule and conduct internal health, safety and/or environmental audit as per schedule (compliance and performance).
• Manage scheduling of audits.
• Conduct audits on site or in a virtual setting
• Ensure alignment with HSE standards through review of safety policies and training programs to ensure alignment with HSE standards.
• Review of account/site operations as requested and alignment to internal processes.
• Development of safety form.
• Review of various job plans.
• Facilitate new process development and process updates.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
• Act as a point of contact to receive all notifications of regulatory agency visits, reports, compliance citations, or similar activities.
• Liaise with site managers or stakeholders to support initiatives as needed.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and protect team members, communities, and the environment.
• Provide regulatory updates relevant to the site, region, or globally.
• Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements through seminars/workshops and further education.
• Monitor with the assistance of the sites the vendor, general contractor, and trade partners’ EHS performance for compliance with their stated practices and procedures, regulatory requirements and any additional owner expectations/deliverables that may have been identified in the contract. Monitoring may include the use of a third-party vendor to provide the following monitoring activities:
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• Bachelor’s Degree in environmental safety, engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Preferred 4 years of experience performing job duties in a similar role.
• Extensive experience with risk assessments and problem solving.
• Strong command of English language and good communication skills.
• Ability to perform audit, write, and submit reports.
• Strict attention to detail and an eye for continuous improvement.
• Observation capabilities to identify risks to people and property with ability to think in terms of overall processes within an organization.
• Good time management skills with ability to balance multiple priorities.
• Ability to build positive relationships with internal team members, managers, and external clients and vendors.
• Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations and protocols.
• Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Professional Engineer and/or knowledge-based certifications or applicable helpful.
