Job Description
BMWL is looking for a full-time Campaign Associate to join our team and work on the many campaigns and clients we have throughout the Bay Area and California this year. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to expand their engagement in Bay Area politics and deepen their expertise in campaign management and consulting. The work includes every aspect of a political campaign, including strategy, communications, field organizing, print media, and paid and organic social media.
A good candidate for this role is someone who can problem-solve and knows when they should ask questions. You will be working with an incredibly experienced team that is happy to provide direction, but you must be driven with the ability to see when you need to fill in or motivate others. You must be detail-oriented and organized, while also being flexible enough to think on your feet.
This is also a terrific opportunity to get a 360-degree view of how a political campaign is structured from the inside. You will have the opportunity to work with campaign professionals who have collectively won hundreds of campaigns and who share decades worth of experience in this field.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· MANAGING CAMPAIGNS AND CLIENTS – From developing the campaign plan and strategy and managing campaign leadership to attending events and having boots on the ground, you are responsible for keeping everyone on task to achieve our short-term and long-term goals for the campaign. Campaigns can often get distracted by outside influences and it’s your job to make sure the leadership team stays focused on the right things according to our win strategy and campaign plan.
· COMMUNICATING WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS – Successful campaigns are built on a broad coalition of support. For this reason, you must be comfortable interacting with the press, elected officials, local organizations, and key influencers in the community. This is a fast-moving environment, and we need someone who can schedule necessary meetings, work with the campaign team to execute outreach plans, and manage the response to press inquiries as needed.
· PRODUCING PAID AND ORGANIC MEDIA – We pride ourselves on the high-impact creative media that we use to communicate with voters through a variety of outlets – direct mail, paid digital, organic social media, and field outreach. You will have the opportunity to do work with our team to support, coordinate and execute every aspect of the production of paid media, including coordinating photo and video shoots, content creation and approval, and managing social media. Experience with social media and email is a plus.
· FIELD ORGANIZING – Direct voter contact is extremely valuable and effective in garnering support in the community. You will work with the campaign team and campaign staff to plan and organize door-to-door canvassing mobilizations, phone banking events, visibility at public events, and other field-related activities through direct volunteer recruitment. It’s your responsibility to ensure the campaign team has the resources they need to be successful, including managing additional platforms (PDI, CallHub, Mobilize, Nationbuilder) and providing messaging and scripts.
· REPORTING – We are relying on you to be an effective communicator, to let us know what is working and what isn’t. You should be able to provide regular updates on key aspects of your clients’ work through weekly meetings and regular reporting.
· OTHER responsibilities as needed to support the firm and its clients.
