    Client Accounting Services (CAS) Supervisor

    Summary of Duties: The Client Accounting Services (CAS) Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and day-to-day operations of the CAS Department. The CAS Supervisor also assists clients with their bookkeeping, basic accounting, payroll tax and payroll functions as well as sales tax. Services performed include, but are not limited to, the preparation and/or review of payroll tax returns, the development of trial balances, completion of bank reconciliations, preparation of monthly / quarterly / annual financial statements, resolution of payroll tax notices, training & professional development of CAS staff and frequent communication with clients to resolve bookkeeping errors & technical issues.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Demonstrates proficiency in Supervisor role as defined below.

    Assists Account Administrators as needed in managing large, more complex engagements.

    Recognized expertise in the area of client accounting and serve as an internal resource in this area.

    Directs staff and ensures that assignments are completed within the budgeted time.

    Reviews staff work for accuracy and completeness and reads the financial statements for suitability of presentation.

    Helps resolve accounting issues as they arise.

    Supports the training of new staff members.

    Ability to:

    Perform bank reconciliations

    Develop trial balances

    Reconcile various client accounts

    Construct client payroll and associated tax returns and forms

    Prepare sales tax returns

    Prepare basic financial statements and general ledgers

    Review financial information and distinguish between necessary and unnecessary procedures

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Works with Firm Administrator and Personnel Partner to enforce the adherence to Brickley DeLongs Quality Control Document and personnel policies with CAS employees.

    Controls office workflow to regulate and maintain a balanced workload for CAS Department with minimum overtime.

    Assigns work to staff members and assist with its completion as needed.

    Assists in interviewing and hiring candidates for support positions.

    Conducts and/or ensure staff training for new employees or for changes within the CAS department / software.

    Participates in conducting annual reviews and work with firm administration in employee discipline / discharge as needed.

    Stays abreast of new software/updates in payroll/bookkeeping and recommend improvements to existing systems when appropriate.

    Prepares client engagements for accounting and payroll tax services on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis.

    Facilitates the collection of year end client documents such as Fringe Benefits and 1099 vendor information to compute and prepare the applicable taxes and returns.

    Manages the electronic filing of client returns including: 941s, 940s, UIA 1028s, W-2s, 1095s and 1099s

    Minimum Requirements:

    Knowledge of accounting principles with a minimum of three years related experience.

    Must possess efficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel and QuickBooks ( Desktop and Online ).

    QuickBooks Pro Advisor as well as Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    The following responsibilities are considered essential and will serve as key result areas for performance review:

    Ability to comprehend various clients accounting systems and adapt work as required.

    Develop a thorough understanding of multiple clients’ general ledger and accounting data from various software platforms as well as each client’s activities / postings. Ability to identify and advise Account Administrators of technical and/or potential budget problems.

    Ability to organize and plan individual jobs.

    Ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner.

    Ability to effectively obtain the confidence, respect and cooperation of the client.

    Ability to respond innovatively and constructively to client’s needs, including recognition of practice development opportunities.

    Skills and Qualifications

    The CAS Supervisor should have the following skills and qualities:

    Technical skills: Strong proofing skills including attention to detail and ability to work with numbers. Good accounting skills and spreadsheet skills necessary. Thorough understanding of accounting software, specifically QuickBooks Desktop & Online applications.

    Organizational skills: Strong organizational skills necessary. Ability to work quickly and accurately, and under pressure.
