    Position Title: Secondary Social Studies Teacher (High School History, Economics, Civics, Geography)

    1.0 FTE Full-time Position for fall 2024

    Education: BA in Education from an accredited college or university required

    Certification: Current Michigan teaching certificate with Social Studies RX

    Work Experience: Experience teaching HS Social Studies Preferred

    Job Description of Position:

    The teacher will have the primary responsibility for planning, programming, and teaching High School (9-12) Social Studies, including History, Economics, Civics and Geography. The teacher will be responsible for evaluating and reporting for all students in his/her classes. He/she will be responsible for establishing a positive and supportive classroom environment. The teacher will demonstrate effective professional skills and will work with other teachers and staff as a contributing team member to present a cooperative and positive adult work environment. The teacher collaborates with other staff to support all students, accommodate student needs and overcome instructional challenges constructively. The teacher possesses subject area knowledge and a sound understanding of the Michigan High School Social Studies Standards. The teacher will guide and assist students in developing the knowledge and skills that are consistent with the state standards.

    ● Receptive to feedback and continuously in pursuit of improving classroom effectiveness and achievement of student outcomes

    Essential Job Functions

    ● Instruct High School students in developing knowledge and skills in Social Studies in accordance with the course of study adopted by the BCCS Board of Education

    ● Encourage students to develop an appreciation for learning

    ● Develop clear and concise instructional lesson plans and organize class time

    ● Use a variety of instructional techniques appropriate for the age, skill, and developmental level of students

    ● Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and create a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning

    ● Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate Individualized Educational Plans

    ● Provide resources and assist teachers with instruction in general education setting

    ● Effectively communicate student progress with parents, staff, and service providers ● Provide and track adaptations and accommodations used in learning environments ● Evaluate and report student progress and program effectiveness

    ● Maintain all student academic records associated with academic performance, IEPs, and required student documentation

    ● Conduct parent-teacher conferences and IEP Meetings

    ● Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines ● Adhere to and support BCCS’s policies and procedures

    ● Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
