Position Summary:
The Backend Operator is a highly skilled technical role responsible for executing complex craftsmanship operations, including advanced shaping, curved and angled work, custom grid work, and screen assembly. In addition to expert-level assembly, finishing, and shipping capabilities, this position handles critical product repairs (both in-shop and on-site at customer locations) and serves as an internal technical advisor to the Sales and Engineering teams.
Advanced Fabrication & Specialized Assembly: Execute complex geometric woodworking tasks, including radius/curved work, precision angles, custom grid work, and screen fabrication.
Product Restoration & Field Service: Perform high-quality product repairs in the facility and travel to customer locations to handle on-site technical repair work as required.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Provide technical feedback, manufacturing insights, and feasibility advice to Sales and Engineering teams to improve product design and customer satisfaction.
Quality Assurance & Maintenance: Take personal ownership of final product quality. Perform routine preventative maintenance on specialized machinery and tools as assigned.
Safety & Compliance: Strict adherence to safety protocols, maintaining a clean and orderly workstation, and proper usage of all required PPE.
Operational Flexibility: Work overtime as required to meet strict customer delivery commitments and production schedules.
Expertise in executing complex shapes, radius cuts, angled joinery, and detailed grid/screen configurations.
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for performing delicate wood and structural repairs both in-shop and in the field.
Proficient in operating Wide Belt Sanders and Quick Wood Sanding machinery.
Skilled in hand sanding (utilizing DA sanders), cleaning copes, stamping doors, and filling/repairing joints and surface imperfections.
Experience with paint/primer application, intricate wood staining, color matching, and top-coating.
Precise installation of hinges, miscellaneous hardware, weather stripping, and inserting doors into assembled jambs.
Ability to clean and caulk exterior glass components and execute flawless surface touch-ups.
Familiarity with processing package shipments (UPS, FedEx, DHL) and Common Carrier (LTL) logistics.
Ability to manually create accurate packing lists, manage hand/automatic shrink-wrapping, and safely assist with truck loading.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. is a plus.
Proven, advanced experience in custom wood door manufacturing, architectural woodworking, or high-end finish carpentry.
