Backend Developer – Privacy Compliance Reporting Platform

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Backend Developer to join a collaborative development team building an AI-powered privacy compliance and reporting platform. This system is designed to help organizations automate and streamline privacy compliance obligations, including records management, audits, and risk assessments.

The role focuses on designing and maintaining secure, scalable backend infrastructure that supports sensitive data governance and compliance reporting. This position is ideal for a developer who is passionate about data security, privacy, AI-enabled systems, and cloud-native architectures.

This position is 100% onsite in Orem, UT. Temporary 3-month contract with the possibility of extension up to 5 years.

This position requires authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, now or in the future.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs and services that enable secure data ingestion, processing, and compliance reporting

• Implement and optimize database schemas to store and query compliance-related data, emphasizing data minimization, encryption, and access control

• Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS , including serverless architectures, scalable compute resources, and secure storage solutions

• Integrate AI-driven features through APIs to guide users through privacy workflows while maintaining audit trails and system transparency

• Collaborate with frontend engineers, data scientists, and compliance specialists to translate regulatory requirements into backend logic and microservices

• Implement security best practices, including authentication, authorization, vulnerability scanning, and protection of sensitive and personal data

• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and scale backend services to support growing user demand

• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and Agile development processes to ensure quality, consistency, and maintainability

Required Skills & Qualifications

Backend Development

• 3+ years of experience with server-side languages such as Python (preferred), Node.js, Java, or Go

• Database Expertise: +5 years of experience with strong hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL via AWS RDS ) and NoSQL solutions (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB ). Skills in database design, optimization, indexing, and ORM tools (e.g., SQLAlchemy, Sequelize ). Experience with data warehousing for reporting

• AWS Proficiency: +3 Years of in-depth knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, Lambda, S3 for storage, VPC for networking, IAM for access management, and CloudWatch for monitoring. Experience with AWS security tools (e.g., KMS for encryption, GuardDuty ) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation ) to ensure compliant, scalable deployments.

• Strong experience building RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs and microservices architectures (e.g., Express, Flask, Spring Boot)

Database Expertise

• Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB)

• Strong skills in database design, indexing, optimization, and ORM tools (e.g., SQLAlchemy, Sequelize)

• Experience with data warehousing for reporting (e.g., Redshift) is a plus

AWS & Cloud Infrastructure

• Solid experience with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch

• Familiarity with AWS security tools (KMS, GuardDuty)

• Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation

Security & Compliance

• Familiarity with data privacy frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA , or similar regulations

• Experience implementing secure coding practices aligned with OWASP standards

• Hands-on experience protecting sensitive or regulated data is highly desirable

Additional Technical Skills

• Version control using Git

• Containerization with Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes

• CI/CD pipelines (e.g., AWS CodePipeline)

• Basic understanding of AI/ML integrations (e.g., API-based model usage, SageMaker)

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

• High attention to detail and commitment to data security

• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams

• Clear communication skills for documenting technical decisions and explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

• Prior experience working on compliance-focused platforms, data governance tools, or SaaS products is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI-assisted systems or privacy/data governance platforms

• Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Developer , AWS Certified Database Specialist , or CISSP
