    SUMMARY:

    Direct the quality systems and procedures for BakeMark plant operations, overseeing the safety and quality of all product lines and assurance of regulatory compliance. Ensure that all processes are current and meet or exceed the applicable regulatory standards. Establish programs to ensure external and internal customers are satisfied with BakeMark products and the professionalism and responsiveness of the Quality team. Continually upgrade and improve manufacturing and laboratory processes and procedures. Manage and develop the Quality staff and ensure a suitable work environment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    GENERAL MANAGEMENT

    • Together with regional Quality Manager, establishes the departmental goals and objectives to meet the requirements of BakeMark.
    • Assumes quality related responsibilities for the BakeMark plant operations.
    • Creates the structure and processes necessary to manage the current activities and projected growth.
    • Responsible for labeling and quality documentation as it relates self-manufactured products.
    • Responsible for documentation and execution of BakeMark quality systems, including food safety, regulatory compliance, product consistency and product performance.
    • Works cooperatively with the Plant Manager and manufacturing staff to meet quality and productivity goals.
    • Serves as member of management committees on crisis management and other special projects.
    • Treats all customers (both internal and external) with respect, courtesy and kindness.
    • Upholds and complies with policies and attitudes adopted by the company.
    • Accepts responsibility to THINK about how own actions and actions of my associate’s affect our customers and our company.
    • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and safety rules as stated in the Employee Handbook and otherwise posted or communicated.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Manages quality staff and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees.

    FINANCIAL

    • Reviews analysis of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine departmental progress toward stated goals and objectives.
    • Applies Statistical Process Control principles to identify points of variation and cost reduction opportunities.

    QUALITY PROCEDURES

    • Establishes and promotes GMP/GLP to ensure product quality and consistency.
    • Evaluates and continually improves laboratory procedures and develops leading methods of analysis.
    • Proposes improvements and changes to manufacturing equipment and processes in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
    • Develops and implements operating methods, check points and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
    • Promotes continuous improvement.
    • Applies total quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes.
    • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability of finished product.
    • Develops and maintains written processing and work instructions.
    • Works with vendors, purchasing and R&D to establish specifications which will ensure safety and quality of all purchased materials and finished goods
    • Fully implements statistical process control and statistical weight control in manufacturing operation.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum of a BS degree in Food Science and or technical field. Advanced degree preferred. Experience with bakery production and/or distribution environments. Expertise in FDA regulated environment. Demonstrated ability to build and develop quality teams and reduce variation. Direct customer interaction is necessary. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a thorough, working knowledge of HACCP, SPC, GMP’s, GLP’s, microbiology and food chemistry.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret statistical analysis, blueprints, schematics, control schemes, diagrams, graphs, charts, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and regulatory documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to employees, top management, and/or public groups.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, probability, statistics, quadratic equations, plane and solid geometry and trigonometry and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to define and resolve problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    COMPUTER SKILLS:

    General knowledge of internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    Valid driver’s license issued by the state where assigned. Insecticide Application License in state where assigned, or ability to obtain.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

    Ability to travel up to 25%.
