Wood-Fired Oven Operator (Baker)

📍 Water Street Bagel Co. – Syracuse, NY

About the Role We are looking for a reliable, hardworking team member to join our team as a Wood-Fired Oven Operator. This is a fast-paced, hands-on position working with our traditional wood-fired oven to produce high-quality bagels throughout the day.

You’ll be part of the early morning/mid morning crew and play a key role in keeping our bake consistent, efficient, and up to our standards.

What You’ll Do

Assist with opening and preparing the oven and baking area

Help build and maintain the wood-fired oven

Load and unload bagels to maintain a steady, continuous bake

Work closely with the baking team to keep production flowing

Monitor bagel quality and remove anything that doesn’t meet standards

Keep your station clean, organized, and food-safe

Support daily production and catering needs

Interact with customers in a friendly and professional way

What We’re Looking For

Someone who shows up on time, awake, and ready to work

Strong work ethic and ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment

Positive attitude and team-first mindset

Ability to take direction and stay on task

Baking or kitchen experience preferred (but we will train the right person)

Hours & Schedule

Part-time: approximately 15–20 hours per week

Weekday shifts may start as early as 3:30 AM – 9:30ish AM

Weekend shifts may be approximately 7:00 AM – 12:30ish PM (give or take)

Weekend availability is required

Physical Requirements

Able to lift up to 50 lbs

Able to stand for long periods

Able to go up and down stairs frequently

Able to be in front of a 500 degree oven and boiler

Fast-paced environment (we handle high volume daily)
