    POSITION SUMMARY:

     

    Every project requires preparation and execution. The HSE Lead will serve the Region in support of the construction work we do for utilities, cities, the military and a raft of diverse clients. Whether the work is topside or diving, you’ll use your problem-solving acumen to provide guidance to the team on its safe completion.

     

    You’ll have a supervisor, but he’s really cool and would love for you to be a partner to him.  Technically, you will have ownership of training, preparing plans, conducting assessments, and continually learning how to make the culture better.

     

    This position will support Ballard’s Southeast area in the Eastern region. This position will be based out of the Bradenton, FL office. This position requires travel up to 50%.

    Education & Certifications:

     

    • Degree or equivalent certification in occupational health or safety preferred.
    • OSHA 30hr-Construction required.

     

    Experience:

     

    • OSHA compliance is the minimum standard. The position requires considerable experience with, and knowledge of, state and federal standards, but also practical experience relating this information to team members to ensure they make informed decisions.
    • Experience producing multiple project submittals, monitoring HSE compliance/needs for multiple project sites, tracking/organizing/reporting on multiple metrics, dealing with regulatory bodies and educating clients.
    • Experience with state and federal standards, referencing, interpreting, and implementing applicable standards.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Oversees project safety staff to ensure adherence to safety policy and standards.
    • Contributes to, and implements, safety policy and programs, on all project sites and facilities within the Area of accountability.
    • Maintains regional driver and fleet lists in support of the DOT program.
    • Performs audits/inspections to verify internal controls, programs, etc. are being adhered to and effective.
    • Oversees safety planning and implementation of safety plans for area projects, shops, yards.
    • Attends and contributes to area bid and operational planning meetings.
    • Conducts site safety visits and performs facility inspections.
    • Maintains area/project metrics and addresses priority problems.
    • Conducts area training, safety committee meetings, incident reviews and implements corrective actions.
    • Completes area safety pre-qualifications.
    • Under the direction of the project owners, attends client meetings and engages with clients to make recommendations on safety improvements and planning.
    • Acts as direct liaison between field crews and area/regional management for safety needs, concerns, and issues.
    • Engages in cold eye reviews as assigned by regional HSE manager.
    • Has the authority, and is expected, to stop unsafe actions and/or work until appropriately mitigated.

      

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • May supervise project safety officers or interns as delegated by the Regional HSE Manager.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

     

    • Working outdoors in various temperatures and conditions.
    • Wears various PPE (respirators, fall protection, etc.).
    • Will travel on various land, water, and aircraft.
    • Will sit and stand for several hours at a time.
    • Lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting for various periods of time.
