    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Piping Designer I position is responsible for development of piping plans, elevations, and fabrication drawings for process piping supply and distribution systems.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist with completion of project piping and ductwork system drawings; including assembly and review of complete drawing packages in preparation for bid, fabrication, and installation.
    • Assist with development of piping plans, elevations and details using Process & Instrumentation Diagrams.
    • Assist with generation of Process and Instrumentation Diagram’s (P&ID’s), piping specifications and equipment general arrangements.
    • Assist with assembly of piping packages; 60% Review, 95% Review, Issued for Bid (IFB), and Issued for Construction (IFC)
    • Assist with design and development of piping arrangements for support area equipment and process area equipment including, compressed air, vacuum, cooling water, fuel gas, hot water, process water, deionized water, waste water, coating materials and lubricants.
    • Assist with design and coordination pipe supports with building, platforms and skidded systems as required. Structural analysis and engineering shall be performed by the structural engineer.
    • Assist with development of Bills of Materials (BOM’s) of piping materials.
    • Follow established AutoCAD standardization as provided in Roeslein’s Engineering / Drafting Standards and utilize established drawing formats and design details from previous projects as directed by the piping design group leader.
    • Travel domestically and internationally ranging from 0-10% per year.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
    • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate with Mechanical Engineer to facilitate piping Requests for Quote (RFQ’s).
    • Issue pipe fabrication drawings, including transmittals.
    • Update Drawing Control Index (DCI).
    • Assist with Unitized and Non-Unitized Cable Tray drawings.
    • Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    SKILL / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

    • Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or a related degree is required.
    • Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in drafting / design experience is required.
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in AutoCAD is required.
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge/understanding of pumps, compressors, vacuum pumps, cooling towers, and heat exchangers.
    • Ability to manage time and efforts towards completing designs on time and within budgets is required.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience is strongly preferred.
    • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
    • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
    • Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
    • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
    • Must have a valid driver license.
    • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work is performed in an office and an uncontrolled atmosphere.  Exposure to harsh conditions—such as:  dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible.  Must be able to travel to jobsites both domestically and internationally; living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards.  All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

    KEY ACTIVITIES

    • Provide leadership on large projects spanning onsite and remote business and technical teams.
    • Analyze existing systems, develop artifacts, and establish, implement and maintain specific systems, while monitoring and supervising systems performance.
    • Analyze requirements for feasibility and users’ needs and design, develop, debug and unit test using MSF technologies for commercial business applications.
    • Prepare business documentation and conduct user training.
    • Custom design specific programs for enterprise and user needs, to support business processes, provide specific technical awareness, insight and documentation as appropriate to departments and users.
    • Perform extensive functional testing of modules post-customization.
    • Ensure that systems continue to function normally through maintenance and testing, execute production failure trouble shooting.
    • Work with other solution design engineers, architects and other cross functional IT professionals to design tools and enhancements and write code to fulfill enterprise objectives and needs
    • Liaise with business /stakeholders on project status, proposals and technical issues.
    • Design and develop solutions/models as applicable, using scientific analysis and mathematical techniques to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
    • Prepare reports or correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, or status.
    • Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of capabilities and requirements, generate useful and actionable business insights.
    • Complete special projects as assigned.
