    We are looking for a changemaker that understands the unequal playing field of education and learning and how to build accessible high quality learning experiences for historically excluded and underinvested communities. As we ramp up to create transformative learning experiences for our program participants and network members, we seek a National Director of Learning & Development that understands how to leverage the lived experiences of our targeted learners to differentiate learning. Our goal is to develop learning experiences that leverage research-based pedagogical best practices for knowledge exploration, application, and reflection.

    As a member of Baltimore Corps’ national team, the National Director of Learning & Development reports to the VP of Programs and Administration and is the lead national strategist and implementer of the organization’s highly engaging and interactive learning and development initiatives for our local and national network. This role is crucial to the development and advancement of Baltimore Corps’ network of changemakers in order to achieve race equity, and leadership development in this sector. This will involve re-evaluating our existing approach, curriculum, instructional design, and establishing an online learning platform that addresses current and future professional development needs of Baltimore Corps’ network and beyond. This role will support general learning, leadership and development areas for 75% of the time and the remaining 25% will focus on Diversity/Equity/Inclusion initiatives and training. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

    Strategy Conceptualization, Execution and Analysis (40%):

    • Lead building, implementing (nationally and locally to start) and coordinating tools and processes for world class self-paced learning and live learning; Leveraging various mediums web-based/virtual learning, and/or blended, one-on-one, etc.

    • Manage the design and development of all learning approaches and assets in coordination with subject matter experts.

    • Collaborate with the Director(s) of Programs and Program Leads to build, implement and coordinate for the Course Design for the organization’s cohorts initiatives.

    • Assess quality assurance options and implement, possibly serving as a reviewer, to ensure courses include Universal Design for Learning principles and are fully accessible.

    • Work with departments and other network partner sites and affiliates to analyze learning outcomes, learning objectives, design digital content and learning activities, and create and implement strategies for online program creation.

    • Establish an approach for using in-house design, technologies and partners to ensure high quality learning solutions that drive skill development and practical application.

    • Collaborate across sites and departments to develop strategy, plan, and create scalable solutions for delivery of online and virtual learning content.

    • Foster continuous improvement and innovation in learning programs, including the review and refresh of curriculum materials periodically across programs and delivery methods..

    Leadership and Team Development (30%):

    • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to recommend and establish (when needed) professional development opportunities and resources for Baltimore Corps’ staff.

    • Develop a system to vet consultants and subject matter experts and work with (SMEs) to build and iterate online learning communities.

    • Build effective asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences that leverage best practices.

    • Provide recommendations to staff and SMEs for a variety of technological and technique-based strategies for online learning and online course management.

    • Assist in the assessment of learning challenges and provides tools, resources, and training to the staff that will help address these challenges.

    • Serve as a collaborator and thought partner in the design of the organization’s programs, initiatives, business services and other convenings.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships Management (25%):

    • Collaborate with the Partnerships Teams to understand gaps and needs from talent identification and personal development programs; as well as DEI needs of private and public sector employer partners.

    • Collaborate with the Special Initiatives team to analyze learning needs, design and develop blended learning solutions, and measures for business services partners. Serve in consultative capacity to identify key training opportunities to meet partners’ objectives.

    • Work with the technology, media and communications team to ensure all systems and media processes are in place to effectively develop and launch the online learning community.

    Administrative Duties (5%): 

    • Collaborate across sites and departments to manage the training lifecycle, to include but not limited to training needs assessment, development of new training programs, assessments, evaluation, budget and resource management, reporting and maintenance of training records;

    • Complete administrative duties, including maintaining files, regular reporting, attending and/or facilitating meetings, etc.;

    • Compile, edit, and write qualitative and quantitative progress reports, as needed, and;

    • Other duties, as assigned, by the VP of Programs and Administration.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

    Experience: 

    10+ years of experience in curriculum design and development, at least 7 of which includes design and delivery of training programs, and/or delivering leadership development programs; 

    Preferred Experience: 

    Experience in Diversity and Inclusion initiatives or training efforts; Experience planning and developing self-paced learning modules, leading virtual training training, and maximizing the affordances of a Learning Management System 

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

    • Proven learning experience designer with a prototyping, testing, and iteration approach to quickly move projects from idea to implementation.

    • Understanding of curriculum development and instructional design best practices,

    • Solid understanding and proven application of adult learning principles.

    • Data-driven with an eye for overseeing and evaluating assessment data and feedback for improvement insights.

    • Proven administrative, supervisory, team building and group facilitation skills.

    • Ability to communicate/function in a professional learning environment across levels of staff including senior leaders.

    • Cultural competency towards race and equity in the workplace.

    • Knowledge of performance management and organizational development tools and processes.

    • Excellent writing and editing, and interpersonal skills.

    Salary & Compensation: 

    The National Director of Learning and Development is a salaried position, $90,000 - $100,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
