    The Role… We are seeking a dynamic Banquet Captain to join our team who also resides in the Washington DC Ward 1 Area. If hired, be prepared to receive a Ward 1 Resident Bonus of $300*. A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for the hospitality industry and an entrepreneurial spirit. This is a fast-moving business, so we are looking for the right individual to be autonomous and be able to pick up multiple tasks and projects at once.

    A Banquet Captain is responsible for orchestrating the event experience, from set up to breakdown. Each guest that attends a private event at The LINE DC will be welcomed and acknowledged in a way that aligns with our culture of best-in-class service, and you will ensure that our standards are met and always maintained. With a combination of passion for the job and the right communication with other departments, you are responsible for making the guest experience more than memorable.

    Because of the fluctuating demands of the company’s operation, it may be necessary that each employee performs a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your position, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employee is expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities

    Greet every guest with a smile and maintain eye contact

    Must be courteous and gracious, always maintaining a professional demeanor

    Establish and maintain good communications and teamwork with fellow colleagues and other departments within the hotel

    Offer guests an enjoyable experience that conforms to the LINE’s standards of excellence, professionalism and friendliness

    Demonstrate expert understanding and knowledge of the sequence of service, following this sequence for every guest

    Coordinate set up of event and ensure accuracy of set up in accordance with pre-determined packages

    Ensure all furniture in event area is clean and arranged properly

    Help set up and break down event equipment

    Ensure that all public areas are neat and clean

    Inspect banquet areas at end of function to ensure all equipment is returned to its proper area and all areas are clean

    Plan opening/closing assignments for serving team

    Create floor plan making sure each event has a specific server

    Know the menu for each function served and be able to explain the major ingredients and preparation method for each item

    Read, understand and execute Event Orders to ensure safe, efficient event set up and break down

    Complete prep and side work efficiently so focused attention during the event can be given fully to guest care

    Greet host of event and review event order to ensure accuracy of guest expectations

    Introducing host to assigned wait staff and review event order to ensure accuracy

    Possess expert knowledge of all food and beverage aspects of the event

    Serve food and beverages to guests, courteously and efficiently

    Maintain cleanliness of event work area and equipment

    Attend all pre-function meetings required to ensure events flow smoothly

    Service all aspects of the banquet operation in accordance with all departmental and hotel standards

    Take ownership of all service issues brought to your attention by guests

    Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the hotel

    Participate in scheduled departmental and administrative meetings as requested

    Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, memos and verbal instructions

    Be familiar with all safety and emergency procedures including OSHA requirements

    Knowledge, Requirements and Skills

    1. High-School diploma or GED required

    Two-year hotel event or related experience preferred

    Knowledge of all food and beverage aspects of the event, company culture and history

    Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays

    Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English Language

    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

    Ability to multitask; excellent communication skills

    Able to handle a large volume of guest interactions in an efficient and courteous manner

    Work well under pressure, requires being a team player

    Working Conditions/Environment

    1. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

    2. The person who has this responsibility may have to lift up to 50lbs on a daily basis

    3. The person having this position may have to sit for one (1) hour, stand and/or walk, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for eight (8) hours per day
