Position Summary
The Bar Manager is responsible for overseeing all bar operations, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, controlling costs, and leading a high-performing bar team. This role blends hands-on service leadership with inventory management, staff training, and operational execution in a fast-paced, hospitality-driven environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations & Guest Experience
Oversee daily bar operations to ensure speed, quality, cleanliness, and consistency
Maintain high standards of guest service and hospitality at all times
Ensure compliance with alcohol service laws and responsible service policies
Resolve guest concerns professionally and promptly
Coordinate bar service with kitchen and floor teams during peak periods
Staff Leadership & Training
Hire, train, schedule, and supervise bartenders and barbacks
Lead by example during service, including bartending when needed
Conduct ongoing training on recipes, service standards, upselling, and safety
Coach, discipline, and evaluate bar staff performance
Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented culture
Inventory, Cost Control & Ordering
Manage liquor, beer, wine, and bar supply inventory
Perform weekly inventory counts and reconcile variances
Order product based on sales trends, events, and par levels
Control beverage cost through portion control, waste reduction, and pricing accuracy
Work with vendors to maintain quality, pricing, and timely deliveries
Financial & Administrative Duties
Monitor bar sales, labor costs, and profitability
Assist in menu development, pricing, and seasonal drink features
Ensure accurate POS setup for beverages and modifiers
Complete required reports, logs, and compliance documentation
Cleanliness, Safety & Compliance
Ensure bar areas meet health, safety, and sanitation standards
Enforce safe alcohol service and ID verification procedures
Maintain cleanliness of bar stations, storage areas, and equipment
Ensure all staff certifications are current (e.g., alcohol service permits)
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Minimum 5+ years of bar management or lead bartender experience
Strong knowledge of spirits, beer, wine, cocktails, and bar operations
Proven leadership and team-management skills
Experience with inventory control and cost management
Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and high-volume events
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Prior experience with promotions, events, or drink specials
