    PURPOSE:
    The associate attorney represents clients who are seeking compensation from the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) for personal injuries and wrongful death. The attorney works directly with clients, gathers proof to support the claim, performs thorough document reviews, drafts legal documents, and argues appeals before the VCF.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Counselling clients throughout the claims process

    • Screening potential clients to determine if they are eligible for benefits from the VCF

    • Investigating claims and gathering the proof necessary to substantiate the claim including proof of presence and exposure, proof of an eligible illness, and proof of all eligible losses

    • Working directly and supervising claim administrators to submit the claim in a timely manner

    • Reviewing medical and disability records and drafting memoranda regarding medical proof

    • Reviewing financial documentation including life insurance information, tax returns, and pension records

    • General familiarity with estate documents

    • Drafting supporting correspondence and memoranda to the VCF on various issues

    • Drafting appeals and conducting hearings before the VCF

    • Responding to requests from the VCF

    • New client outreach (Speaking events, booth management, etc.)

    • Keeping abreast of VCF policy-related matters

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
    • Exceptional attention to detail
    • Highly organized and analytical
    • Strong relationship building and client-facing skills
    • High levels of empathy and patience
    • Law degree admitted to NY Bar
    • Familiarity with MS Office, Salesforce a plus
    • Creative and analytical mind, able to strategize and problem-solve
    • Familiarity with medical documentation is a plus
    • Personal accountability and adherence to standards of ethical behavior and professional conduct
    • Team collaborator with excellent interpersonal skills
    • Must be willing to be in the office four days per week

    SALARY:
    $80,000 - $115,000
