    Job Description

    Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community.  Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and non-residential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter to the disabled homeless, and outreach to physically disabled individuals with mental health and/or chemical addiction issues.

    HR Assistant performs various administrative tasks and supports our HR department’s daily activities. HR Assistant responsibilities include updating our employee records with new hire information, screening resumes, and scheduling interviews, generating reports. The HR Assistant reports to BFL’s HR Manager to the provision of support on selected agency projects. The HR Assistant has the ability to work with diverse populations including people with disabilities and domestic violence and Experience exercising discretion and confidentiality.

     HR ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist with all internal and external HR-related inquiries or requests.
    • Assist with onboarding/offboarding process when needed
    • Maintain both hard and digital copies of employees' records.
    • Assist with the recruitment process by identifying candidates, performing reference checks, and background checks.
    • Assist with performance management procedures.
    • Coordinate Schedule meetings, interviews with the interview panel, HR events, and maintain agendas.
    • Coordinate training sessions and seminars.
    • Perform orientations and update records of new staff.
    • Produce and submit reports on general HR activity.
    • Assist with payroll and ad-hoc HR projects.
    • Support other assigned functions.
    • Keep up-to-date with the latest HR trends and best practices.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related (essential).
    • 2 years of experience as an HR Coordinator (essential).
    • Exposure to Labor Law and employment equity regulations.
    • Effective HR administration and people management skills.
    • Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Self-starter works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
    • Highly computer literate with capability in email, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and related business and communication tools.
    • Fantastic organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
    • Meticulous attention to detail.

    START: ASAP HOURLY RATE: $22.00 NON - EXEMPT STATUS:    PART-TIME HOURS PER WEEK: 21      SCHEDULE: During Monday to Friday between 9 am to 5 pm. Flexible. Currently 90% work remotely and 10% in the office. Potential to change in the future. TRAVEL: Ability to travel between BFL Program sites, able to lift approximately 10 -15 pounds.
