Baton believes in small business!
Our mission is simple – level the playing field for small businesses by innovating a financial service to expand their ‘selling power’.
As most people know, small businesses are the fuel behind the U.S. economy. They employ over half of our country’s private workforce. They are the largest creator of net new jobs nationwide. Most importantly, for our future, they are the innovators – the creators of new ideas and products that change our lives!
Yet small business owners face challenges many of us will never know. For instance, did you realize that small businesses, in aggregate, are the largest single lender for big businesses? Stunning, but true. How? A mindboggling amount of accounts receivable (AR), multiple trillions, flows through the balance sheets of U.S. small businesses every year. This represents the short-term credit extended by small businesses to their business and government customers.
Every day small businesses selling B2B act as a bank to their customers. They deliver goods or services on invoice terms (i.e., Net 30, 60, 90 or even 120 days). They wait to be paid and wait, wait and wait some more. They take on the risk of their customers’ late payment or non-payment. Even though they are the lifeblood of our economy, AR stifles their ability to grow and prosper. Until now!
Baton is revolutionizing financial services for small businesses who sell to other businesses or government on invoice terms. Our innovative B2B Merchant Service is designed to deliver the same benefits small businesses selling B2C (business to consumer) enjoy today through traditional credit card merchant services. Working with our Member Banks, Baton moves AR balances and their associated risk from the balance sheet of small businesses to the balance sheet of banks – expanding the selling power of small businesses!
We believe enabling small businesses to do business ‘better’ will drive growth and prosperity. Our BATON Merchant Service was developed with 4 core beliefs:
