    Job Description

    We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Writer/Editor to support the CDC's evaluation of the Federal government's COVID-19 vaccination efforts.  The Writer/Editor will be on a team supporting the programs and projects within the Immunization Information Systems Support Branch of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. 

    Initial work location is remote, due to COVID-19 work restrictions on the CDC campus. Once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, this role will report and transition to the Roybal Campus located in Atlanta, Georgia.  This role is 100% at the customer’s location.

    Job duties include but are not limited to:

    • Provide consultation, technical writing and editing services following best practices in technical writing and editing
    • Write technical content for IISSB mailbox and other IISSB technical assistance documents that is grammatically correct, adheres to best practices in technical writing, and complies with CDC plain language requirements.
    • Create and edit guidance documents, scripts, manuscripts, brochures, reports, presentations, and other related documents in IISSB to ensure the documents are grammatically correct, adhere to best practices in technical writing, and comply with CDC plain language requirements.
    • Proofread guidance documents, scripts, manuscripts, brochures, reports, presentations, and other documents related to IISSB to ensure the documents are grammatically correct, adhere to best practices in technical writing, and comply with CDC plain language requirements.
    • Provide technical writing support for:
      • Guidance documents development 
      • Script development 
      • Manuscript development 
      • Brochures and promotional documents 
      • Proposals as well as status, outcome, and other reports
      • Presentations and other related documents 
      • Training materials
      • Notification letters to state programs
      • Technical manuals
      • IIS Info Brief
      • IIS Web Pages
    • Develop and disseminate timely, audience-centered written and web-based information products that are essential for effective communications, both to the public and internally.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Strong knowledge of grammar, writing, and editing practices sufficient to write, edit, and provide advice and assistance in the development of scientific and/or technical materials.
    • Knowledge of the style requirements of the assigned subject-matter discipline, and the media and publications used within the field sufficient to develop and present information that is clear and meaningful to the intended audience.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
    • Knowledge of pertinent scientific terms, concepts, and vocabulary sufficient to review, clarify, organize, write, and edit a variety of technical reports.
    • Skill in using computerized technology such as desktop publishing systems, graphics software, and basic HTML coding to create, edit, and prepare materials for publication.
    • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to efficiently organize multiple priorities independently and yet maintain the flexibility to respond to additional requests.
     
    

    Education and Training

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, advertising, English, or related field (Master’s degree strongly preferred).
    • 5 years' experience writing and editing both electronic and print publications.
    • Excellent organization and communication skills
    • Experience working with/in the CDC.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance.
