    Job Description

    BeVera Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Writer/Editor to support the CDC’s Global Immunization Division (GID). 

    The CDC’s key role in global immunization is to provide scientific and public health expertise, and to make evidence for action available for optimal policy and programmatic decision making at all levels, from community to global. In particular, CDC bridges the gap between knowledge and action by disseminating and communicating research, innovation and evaluation result, and by working with countries to use these results to catalyze improvements in immunization policy and practices. GID’s Office of the Deputy Director for Science and Program works with Division authors and technical staff to manage written manuscripts.  

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Technical Writer/Editor will provide support for writing and editing technical and scientific documents (e.g., manuscripts, proposals, protocols) and provide support for accurate and clear interpretation and explanation of a wide range of topics associated with GID’s research and evaluation activities.  Services to be provided to the Division's Office of the Director and four branches include but are not limited to:

    • Write and/or edit technical and scientific documents including scientific manuscripts to provide support for interpretation and explanation of a wide range of topics. Tailor written products for specific audiences with differing levels of interest and understanding of the subject matter.  
    • Assist in the document development and review process to ensure quality of scientific/technical documents (e.g., Morbidity Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) articles, scientific manuscripts, guidance documents) before they are input into the official clearance system, including negotiating and incorporating pre-clearance comments in coordination with primary author.  
    • Assist in overseeing the finalization and clearing of publications, including final reviews of documents for logic, clarity, style, consistency, and format consistent with the intended publication.  
    • Write and publish documents in support of Professional support services provided for the GID and publication to web.  
    • Support authors in writing key messages Single Overriding Health Communication Objectives (SOHCOs) for MMWR/the Weekly Epidemiological Record (WER) articles, and coordinate meetings to discuss MWMR/WER SOHCOs with GID leadership, and lead authors.  
    • Serve as POC for coordination and management of issues related to GID publications.  
    • Collaborate with GID staff and partners to develop annual MMWR/WHO Weekly Epidemiological Record (WER) publication schedule spreadsheet and develop deadlines and track the status of articles to ensure that deadlines are being met.  
    • Facilitate quick turn-around for complex documents.  
    • Send weekly communications report to CGH OD with new and upcoming GID publications.  
    • Serve as point of contact and oversee the clearance of documents for GID in eClearance and the Study Tracking and Reporting System (STARS) and all appropriate CDC information management systems.  
    • Coordinate agenda development, note-taking and action items for GID SPRC and Science and Program meetings.  
    • Create and distribute monthly literature review of global immunization articles in the published literature.  
    • Serve as point of contact for management of the Science and Program Office SharePoint site, and intranet site which includes content management to ensure that pages are reviewed and updated accordingly at scheduled intervals.  
    • Exhibit working level knowledge of complete Microsoft Office suite to include SharePoint and intranet sites.  
    • Support development of technical writing capacity among Atlanta-based and field staff in GID.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    The following qualifications are the minimum requirements for successful performance under the anticipated contract.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or Science.
    • Minimum 5 years experience in technical and scientific writing, including scientific manuscripts.
    • Extensive knowledge of immunization or vaccine preventable diseases.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with public health staff at all organizational levels.
