    Job Description

    POSITION REPORTS TO: Writing Center Director

    SUPERVISORY FOCUS: Comprehensive management and oversight of all Assistive Technology

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: The ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST shall be responsible for performing the following functions and activities:

    • Developing, implementing, and monitoring all assistive technology;
    • Evaluating, modeling, and training students, faculty and staff in assistive technology;
    • Using low to high technology systems;
    • Working with faculty and the Bookstore on selecting accessible textbooks
    • Providing Canvas support;
    • Interpreting, integrating, and synthesizing evaluative information to make recommendations for assistive technology interventions and services for the purpose of providing access for students;
    • Maintaining accurate records for the purpose of documenting the usage of assistive technology, and student performance data;
    • Participating in building programs, activities, and meeting as appropriate for the purpose of collaboration and adherence to building policies and procedures;
    • Proficiently using technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data for the purpose of providing accurate records, and communicating with team members, parents, faculty and staff;
    • Collaborating with faculty in designing and developing assignments, assessments, multimedia learning objects, and course structure to support selected strategies;
    • Providing diagnostic services for students for the purpose of assessing assistive technology needs;
    • Utilizing and making recommendations for technology and assistive technologies for the purpose of identifying appropriate and best practices for assistive technologies;
    • Independent problem solving,
    • Participating in all required College-wide and Divisional meetings, training, and events as made known by institutional policy, the Board of Trustees, the President, and/or the Provost;
    • Assuming other duties as assigned by the Provost.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The minimum qualifications for the position of ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST are as follows:

    • Master degree in, or related to, learning design, curriculum and instruction, learning systems, or related field;
    • Experience with eLearning pedagogy and application of learning design theory, learning theory principles and practices for the development of eLearning courses and programs in higher education;
    • Knowledge and experience teaching Assistive Technology;
    • Demonstrated ability to help faculty achieve teaching and learning goals;
    • Knowledge of and direct experience with an undergraduate population representative of students enrolled at Beacon College;
    • Familiarity with the mission of and undergraduate support model employed by Beacon College;
    • Proven capacity to work effectively with colleagues in creating an environment of success and inclusion for the multidimensional diversity found among Beacon College’s undergraduate population; and
    • Willingness to remain with responsibilities that may extend beyond the traditional workday or workweek.
