    Job Description

    JOB FAMILY SUMMARY:

    The Network Engineer works with members of the management and IS staff to provide accurate and timely resolution of all user problems as they relate to Company computing systems, and exhibits positive and helpful service delivery toward end-users in an effort to achieve the goals and objectives of increased user satisfaction and productivity.

    JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

    Position reports to the Director of Technical Operations.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The following are exemplary essential job duties and responsibilities and are not intended to represent an all-inclusive listing of related essential functions of the position

    PERFORMS DEPARTMENT DUTIES IN A TIMELY AND EFFICIENT MANNER:

    (1) Responsible for developing, documenting, and maintaining of enterprise level network architecture.

    (2) Responsible for network security administration.

    (3) Responsible for maintenance and security of directory services.

    (4) Responsible for design, installation, maintenance, and security of highly available and reliable wireless networking within client facilities.

    (5) Development of appropriate cabling standards.

    (6) Monitoring and auditing compliance with physical cabling standards and addressing non-compliance with staff and management.

    (7) Maintains, secures, and support company’s LAN/WAN environment.

    (8) Configures, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains LAN/WAN equipment and related services

    (9) Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves network problems.

    (10) Monitoring backups, audit logs, server logs, network usage, utilization, and provides recommendations accordingly.

    (11) Undertaking routine preventative measures and implementing, maintaining and monitoring network security, particularly where the network connects to the Internet.

    (12) Monitoring the use of the web by employees and providing reports and recommendations to management.

    (13) Developing proactive maintenance plans and problem resolution for escalated incidents or problems.

    (14) Providing training, mentoring, and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence.

    (15) Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks.

    (16) Identifies, recommends, procures tools required to enhance user productivity within the department and the user community.

    (17) Maintains a current documentation for knowledge sharing.

    (18) Perform tier 2 and 3 support as escalated by the Desktop team, customers, and complete respective incident documentation.

    (19) Participates in mentoring and knowledge sharing with other Information Services staff at all levels.

    (20) Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation.

    (21) Acts as a backup and shares certain server related responsibilities.

    (22) Designs, recommends and implements plans to allow delegation of appropriate administrative rights to tier 1 and tier 2 support staff (subject to appropriate management authorization).

    (23) Enforces EPIC’s change management, configuration management, and release management procedures for ISO layers 1-4 devices.

    (24) Driven commitment to excellence and team success.

     

    OTHER WORK AS REQUIRED/REQUESTED

    May be assigned special project or other assignments and work tasks that are generally within the scope and level of the position, and relative to the need for flexible Company operations.

     

    MINIMUM & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION/TRAINING

    MINIMUM: High School diploma or equivalent.

    PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Information Systems or Computer Science from an accredited university.

    Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of these positions.

     

    EXPERIENCE

    MINIMUM: WITHOUT A DEGREE – Five (5) to ten (10) years progressive technology experience, with five (5) years prior experience providing tier 2 & 3 incident and problem resolution. Network administration in a corporate environment with at least 500 end users

    WITH A BACHELOR’S DEGREE – Three (3) to seven (7) years progressive technology experience, with three (3) years prior experience providing tier 2 & 3 incident and problem resolution. Network administration in a corporate environment with at least 500 end users;

    Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of these positions.

     

    CERTIFICATION(S)

    CCNA, CCDA or higher certification preferred

    Vendor-specific Hardware and Printer certifications preferred

     

    DRIVER’S LICENSE

    Valid California driver’s license required including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the company’s insurance carrier standards.

     

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Work with spirit of enthusiasm, teamwork, cooperation and a sense of urgency. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality over all matters in the course of business. Ability to anticipate needs and solve problems. Ability to successfully uphold and improve the established customer service standards and Company Mission Statement.

     

    1. Demonstrated knowledge of network of network design and implementation for ISO layer 1 thru

    2. Knowledge of IP networking and troubleshooting.

    3. Hands-on experience implementing and administrating Windows Server 2000/2003 environment:

    • Firewalls; Cisco, HP, and Dell network switches; Cisco routers; Cisco VPN; Wireless Access Points; HP, Dell server platforms; Windows Server 2000/2003; Active Directory; Symantec Back-Up Exec software and related backup tape drive; Previous responsibility for providing customer support; Demonstrable level of competence including a thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking; A practical level of experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, etc; Working knowledge of common network monitoring and security utilities; Troubleshooting focused on determining hardware vs. software, hardware vs. firmware, software vs. operating system, network vs. application/systems, and patterned vs. non-repeatable problems.

     

    1. Basic to intermediate project management skills;

    2. Strong technical aptitude and ability to research and solve complex issues independently.

    3. Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization.

    4. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information.

    5. Working knowledge of TCP/IP

    6. Working experience utilizing SNMP-based network monitoring and management systems.
