    Job purpose

    The Mental Wellness Specialist plays a central role in advancing the mental, emotional, and social well-being of system-impacted youth through a combination of individualized support, group facilitation, and community-driven wellness initiatives. In this role, you will work under the supervision of the Director of Community Wellness to support individuals facing behavioral, emotional, and life challenges, playing a key role in fostering safe, healing-centered, and growth-oriented environments for clients.

    Ideal candidates for this position will be high-energy, responsible, organized, and deeply committed to supporting the mental health and overall well-being of youth and families. Candidates should demonstrate patience, flexibility, strong behavior management skills, and the ability to make sound decisions and take initiative in high-pressure situations. Successful applicants will bring experience in youth development, mental health support, and case management, and should feel confident engaging with diverse and system-impacted youth and families.

    Duties and responsibilities

    ● Communicate student concerns and updates to the appropriate Voices program staff.

    ● Attend Probation, Department of Child Services (DCS) appointments, and court hearings as needed to support youth.

    ● Assist in designing and implementing behavior management strategies, social-emotional supports, and therapeutic interventions.

    ● Develop and maintain individualized case management plans tailored to client needs.

    ● Conduct mental health screenings and assessments; collect and document progress data.

    ● Provide consistent positive reinforcement and redirection to support goal achievement and desired behaviors.

    ● De-escalate emotionally charged situations and guide clients in practicing emotional regulation techniques.

    ● Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners—including probation officers, home-based workers, therapists, and social workers—to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.

    ● Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential documentation for each client.

    ● Offer direct support to clients in both individual and group settings.

    ● Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership to support program goals.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements:

    ● Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Human Services, or a closely related field (required); advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.

    ● Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with youth and families, particularly those who are system-impacted.

    ● Minimum of 3 years of experience facilitating group sessions, including life skills, social-emotional learning, or therapeutic support groups.

    ● Strong knowledge of behavior support strategies and evidence-based practices, including principles of healing-centered behavioral approaches, Motivational Interviewing, Strengths-Based Approaches, and Trauma-Informed Care.

    ● Demonstrated ability to engage youth using empathy, consistency, and cultural humility.

    ● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport across diverse populations.

    ● Highly collaborative, with a team-oriented mindset and the ability to work independently when needed.

    ● Strong organizational and time management skills, with acute attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

    ● High level of emotional intelligence, patience, and resilience; commitment to personal growth, self-awareness, and professional boundaries.

    ● Computer proficiency, including use of Microsoft Office Suite, online documentation systems, and virtual meeting platforms.

    ● Must be able to pass all Department of Child Services (DCS) and criminal background checks in accordance with state requirements.
