    Description
    The Behavioral Health Technician works as a behavioral interventionist to residents in Skilled Nursing Facilities and Behavioral Health Units within larger nursing facilities. This role provides direct support to patients, implements therapeutic programming, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to ensure coordinated and high-quality care. The Behavioral Health Technician trains with and reports to a remote Clinically Licensed Therapist Supervisor, who provides clinical oversight on all cases.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Participate in clinical training and case consultation as needed, including biweekly clinical oversight with the clinical supervisor.
    • Attend and actively participate in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to support coordinated care planning.
    • Provide behavioral health assessment and therapeutic interventions to individuals and groups in long-term care settings under the direction of a clinical supervisor.
    • Facilitate psychosocial activities and structured programming to support patient engagement and quality of life.
    • Work in coordination with facility caregivers and staff to redirect and de-escalate behavioral episodes.
    • Conduct therapeutic program implementation as requested by partner facilities and approved by the clinical supervisor.
    • Document assessments, interventions, and progress notes for each encounter and submit within 24 hours for review.
    • Perform non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral redirection strategies as appropriate.
    • Support case management functions as requested by partner facilities and/or care management personnel.

     

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
    • Four years of experience working in a behavioral health setting required if only possessing a high school diploma/equivalent.
    • Certified Mental Health Technician (CMHT) through NCCB preferred but not required.
    • Minimum of two years working in a behavioral health setting, or educational equivalence may be substituted for up to one year of work experience.
    • COVID-19 Vaccination required to work in Skilled Nursing Facilities per CMS regulations.
    • Moderate computer skills required; experience with electronic medical records preferred.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
    • Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
    • Proficiency in writing clear reports and clinical documentation.
