Behavior Therapist (Community & Independence-Focused)
Company: Life Lab LA Location: Los Angeles, CA (In-field: Home, School, Work, and Community) Position Type: Part-Time Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master's degree or current graduate enrollment preferred
About Life Lab LA:
Life Lab LA provides person-centered, community-based behavioral and adaptive skills services focused on helping transition-age adolescents and adults with autism and related neurodivergence to build meaningful independence.
Our work extends beyond traditional clinic-based ABA. We meet clients where skills actually matter: at home, in the community, at school, at work, and during real-life activities. Our clinical philosophy is assent-based, naturalistic, and focused entirely on outcomes that help individuals become safer, more self-directed, and successful in the lives they want to live.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Behavior Therapist, you will work directly with clients under the close supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Your core responsibilities include:
Direct Program Implementation: Deliver highly individualized behavioral and adaptive skills programming in natural environments (homes, workplaces, college campuses, and community settings).
Skill Acquisition Support: Teach and reinforce critical real-world competencies, including:
Independent living, personal care, and daily routines
Executive functioning, organization, and emotional regulation
Communication, self-advocacy, and social relationship skills
Community safety, transit navigation, and integration
Employment readiness and workplace success
Behavior Reduction & Support: Consistently implement individualized behavior plans to reduce barriers that interfere with a client’s independence and overall quality of life.
Clinical Data & Documentation: Collect precise, objective data during sessions and maintain thorough clinical documentation to track client progress.
Professional Collaboration: Maintain strong therapeutic relationships with clients and collaborate effectively with families, support networks, and your supervising BCBA.
Educational & Career Development:
We see this role as a launchpad for your career. Life Lab LA is more than just a direct service job.
We offer:
Mentorship & Training: Receive ongoing training, mentorship, and clinical supervision from experienced BCBAs.
Advanced Clinical Skills: Opportunities to participate in case discussions, learn clinical decision-making, observe assessments, and understand program development.
BCBA Fieldwork Opportunities: For qualified candidates pursuing BCBA certification, Life Lab LA may provide supervised fieldwork opportunities in alignment with BACB requirements (evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
Who We Are Looking For:
This position is uniquely suited for individuals who are passionate about neurodiversity and looking to develop advanced clinical skills.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field.
Reliability, thoughtful communication, and a calm demeanor under pressure.
Coachability and a genuine desire to learn and grow.
Ability to build strong rapport while maintaining firm professional boundaries.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree completed or currently in progress (Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, etc.).
Experience working with adolescents or adults with complex support needs.
Prior experience in ABA, adaptive skills training, special education, mental health, or community-based services.
Why Join Life Lab LA?
If you want to move away from rigid, clinic-based repetition and move toward meaningful, real-world impact, Life Lab LA is the place for you. You will gain invaluable experience navigating complex, transition-age programming—including college participation, employment, and community access—while helping individuals rewrite what independence looks like for them.
