  • Responsibilities

    SCOPE:  The Converting Specialist - Flexographic Printing  is responsible for developing a high level of printing technology and operational knowledge across the America’s converting facilities to increase asset performance. The incumbent provides expert training, troubleshooting and process improvement services to improve quality and productivity performance to achieve business goals.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assesses and audits printing press assets and operational workforce in terms of process capabilities, equipment capabilities, crew knowledge, skill, and experience levels and productivity levels, including operational practices, procedures, supporting processes (platemaking, various raw materials and sub-processes), and color measurement and control systems.
    • Develops and delivers customized training on-site and/or off-site, based on the assessments, to all stakeholders in the printing process (operators, shift supervisors, operations, quality/continuous improvement (CI) resources) as needed and appropriate.
    • Coordinates the development and implementation of written best practices documentation and standard operating procedures in alignment with training and educational objectives.
    • Identifies areas for improvement and applies continuous improvement concepts and techniques to increase equipment productivity.       Participates and leads process improvement and cost reduction initiatives as assigned.
    • Conducts expert troubleshooting to resolve equipment performance issues related to quality, speed, waste and downtime and recommends/implements solutions to sustain improved performance.
    • Provides expert technical and process knowledge during the installation and start-up of new or redeployed printing assets.
    • As a technical printing expert, partners with converting operations team to support new business opportunities and product development projects.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • 7 - 10 or more years of related experience and/or formal training in flexographic printing technology
    • 7 - 10 or more years of related operations production experience, preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
    • Proven and extended knowledge of all print technologies, including offset, flexo and gravure
    • Working operational knowledge of most presses in GPI converting facilities
    • Working knowledge of color standards, ISO print systems, varnishes
    • Proven ability to coach and train others in technical and process skills
    • Proven ability to develop training documents and standard operating procedures
    • Working knowledge of continuous improvement methods, i.e. Six Sigma methodology
    • Must be able to travel 75% of the time, as well as, prepared to travel if required on short notice. May include international travel on occasion.
