  • Responsibilities

    Benchmark Space Systems has an immediate opening for the position of Engineering Technician. Applicants should have a High School diploma or GED with at least 5 years of professional experience, or a 2-year technical degree with at least 3 years of professional experience.

    The Technician will be responsible for supporting all departments at Benchmark Space Systems including high fidelity production work, low TRL research and development, and general maintenance of test equipment and facilities. Primary tasking will include working with chemical propulsion systems, data acquisition, operating environmental and vacuum chambers, mechanical and electronics assembly, operation of thrust stands, lab equipment inventory, chemical handling, and receiving & inspection.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in an engineering lab technician role
    • Experience in hands-on fabrication and assembly in a relevant field
    • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics, and manuals
    • Aptitude to document work within an MRP system
    • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
    • Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US citizen.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Previous experience and/or certifications within the aerospace and defense industry
    • Experience working with propulsion systems
    • Component quality and dimensional inspection experience
    • Ability to operate thermal cycling chambers and vacuum chambers
    • Experience working in a clean room environment
    • Vacuum equipment experience
    • Current or ability to obtain J-STD soldering and/or inspection certification.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
    • Inventory management and material handling experience
    • Strong organization, record-keeping, and written/verbal communication skills
    • Basic wet chemistry practices and safe handling of hazardous materials
    • Basic machining skills (drilling, milling, lathe, tapping, etc.)
    • Experience with LabVIEW, Python, or other scripting languages

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assembly of mechanical and electrical flight hardware, facilities, and test equipment
    • Inspection of components and ware to verify tolerances and fits
    • Conduct qualification and acceptance testing on mechanical and electrical hardware
    • Maintain test logbooks, in a neat and organized manner
    • Pump down, monitor, and be responsible for the operation of thermal cycling and vacuum chambers (including working with liquid nitrogen)
    • Operate propulsion test stand equipment with limited direction
    • Maintain or create documentation during fault finding, maintenance or upgrade activities
