    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Performs daily press approvals and spot audits of quality.
    • Directs daily activities and inspection/rejection decision-making.
    • Direct and manages the daily activities for Quality Assurance Technicians.
    • Directs Continuous Improvement Efforts
    • Reporting on Manufacturing Metrics
    • Identify Improvement Opportunities
    • Lead Plant CI Projects by Establishing KPIs, Reporting on Results and Ensuring Success for CI Projects in Merced Plant
    • Work with operations to champion a Lean culture by participating in and/or facilitating continuous improvement projects.
    • Report Metrics to Leadership Team
    • Produces and implements quality control / Food Safety procedures, audits internal, external, corrective actions, compliance to the standard.
    • Company representative for IFS Pac Secure to direct compliance to the nine requirements defined as KO requirements.
    • Responsibility of the senior management
    • Personnel Hygiene
    • Raw material specifications
    • Product formula compliance
    • Foreign material management
    • Traceability system
    • Internal audits
    • Procedure for withdrawal and recall
    • Corrective actions
    • Responds to customer complaints and implements corrective action.
    • Acts as company spokesperson on quality issues, including printing consistency, rejection percentages, and quality policies.
    • Manages third party audits including customer or certification body. Works with management to ensure any audit findings are promptly addressed through corrective action.
    • Lead and develop the plant’s internal audit team. Schedule frequent internal audits to ensure operations comply with all GMP/ SOP’s/ IFS requirements.
    • Support food safety initiatives such as GMP, HACCP, Food Defense, IFS
    • Conduct all mock recall exercises as required by company procedure.
    • Produces monthly quality reports, including waste and rejection performance for Printing, Finishing, and Pouching.
    • Produces yearly report of quality performance for Printing, Finishing, and Pouching operations and provides direction for performance improvement in each department.
    • Responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements for air quality, water treatment and food safety/allergen control.
    • Direct Internal Sustainability Activities
    • Achieve and maintain SGP certification requirements

    Qualifications

     

    The right person for this role will possess the following:

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a science curriculum preferred.
    • 5 years’ experience in quality control in the packaging industry with strong logistics and mathematics skills.
    • Valid driver’s license with acceptable clean motor vehicle record (MVR).

    Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • ASQ-CQT or equivalent knowledge of statistical quality control techniques.
    • Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma experience preferred.
    • Persuasive and passionate in the spoken and written word.
    • Experience in food safety, quality management, printing operations preferred.
    • Must be able to relate to people at all levels of the organization.
    • Assertive and solution focused.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Shift QA techs (3) and Food Safety Technician (1)

    Training Requirements:

    • Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.

    Physical Demands:

    • Walking or standing a maximum of 100%, minimum of 60%.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be willing to travel on a limited basis, up to approximately 10%
    • Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.

    Work Environment:

    • Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
    • Pressroom environment contains aromatic solvents and UV-cure products, which require the use of PPE.

    Personal Protective Equipment:

    • Safety shoes and eye protection are highly recommended in the production area.
    • Food Safety environment required PPE usage must
