  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

     

    Under the supervision of the RN Supervisor of the Transitional Care Unit, the Certified Nurse Aide assists nurses in carrying out routine assignments, transporting and preparing residents and equipment and keeping equipment and areas in an orderly hygienic condition.

    EDUCATION:

     

    High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

    Completion of Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Program.

     

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

     

    Six months experience as a Nurse Aide in a geriatric setting preferred.

    SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

     

    Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.

    Must meet federal requirements for enrollment on the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry upon employment; OR within 120 days of employment, must successfully complete the required Nurse Aide course and competency examination.

    Must be sixteen years of age or older (will work within restrictions of child labor law).

    CPR Certification required or must be obtained and maintained.

    Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction (including promoting and maintaining positive relationships) with patients, visitors or other hospital personnel.

    Must adhere to nursing policies and standards and maintain confidentiality of patient information.

    Must be willing to rotate to other units as necessary.

    Assists with physical care of residents. Assists with oral hygiene, weighs residents, shower/bathes residents, transfers and repositions residents, assists with dressing and grooming activities and restorative nursing procedures. Cares for resident’s clothing and property as necessary. 

    Passes trays and feeds residents

    Keeps licensed staff informed of unit-related problems and resident-related problems or changes in resident condition. 

    Documents care rendered to residents daily. 

    Offers fluid to residents to maintain hydration. 

    Reports and/or responds to unsafe environmental conditions and infractions of safety and infection control policies. 

    Transports residents to and from nursing areas.

    Changes linens and makes beds. 

    Assists in admission procedures and the regulation of visits. 

    Collects urine and stool specimens as necessary. 

    Participates in report at change of shift. 

    Helps maintain supplies and equipment. 

    Assists the physician and nurse as directed. 

    Applies prosthetics, orthotics, and splints as necessary. 

    Required Skills Required Experience
