This position is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and communication of employee benefit programs, as well as overseeing consulting firms, brokers, and trustees. The role ensures all benefit programs comply with IRS, ERISA, and applicable regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field (required)
Master’s degree preferred
Certifications
HR-related certification preferred (e.g., CBP, CEBS)
Experience / Skills
10+ years of experience managing benefits operations, including implementation, administration, and compliance of retirement and health & welfare programs within a complex healthcare system or multi-divisional organization
10+ years of healthcare industry experience (required)
Strong experience with plan design, evaluation, compliance, and implementation across:
Health & welfare
Pension, 403(b), and 401(k)
Non-qualified plans
Life, AD&D, disability, and voluntary benefits
Knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ERISA, IRS, DOL, and healthcare reform regulations
Experience with HRIS systems
Proven leadership ability with experience managing and developing high-performing teams
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and escalate issues appropriately
Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Wellness program development experience preferred
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and administer competitive, cost-effective benefit programs that attract and retain talent
Ensure all company-sponsored benefit plans remain compliant with federal and regulatory requirements (e.g., ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS, DOL)
Partner with Compensation, HRIS, and leadership to develop and execute Total Rewards strategies aligned with business goals
Lead and manage the Benefits team, ensuring operational excellence and performance
Maintain and develop relationships with external partners including consultants, actuaries, and vendors
Evaluate and improve processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and delivery of benefit programs
Collaborate with HRIS and IT teams to implement system enhancements and automation tools
Serve as the escalation point for complex benefits issues and process improvements
Develop and track metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and ROI
Ensure clear and effective communication of benefit programs to employees
Support a safe, compliant, and high-quality work environment
Perform additional duties as assigned
