    Job Description

    The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration and strategic oversight of all North America employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, optional healthcare programs, and wellness initiatives. This role also manages 401(k) contributions, monthly premium reconciliations, all employee leave of absence requests including FMLA, and annual open enrollment. The Benefits Specialist will work closely with our benefits broker to ensure we are offering a competitive portfolio of healthcare offerings for over 1000 participants nationwide. Additionally, this position supports HR Generalists during peak periods and ensures compliance with all applicable regulations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Administer and manage all employee benefit programs (Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance, and optional healthcare plans).
    • Oversee 401(k) contributions and ensure compliance with plan requirements.
    • Reconcile monthly insurance premiums and resolve discrepancies promptly.
    • Serve as primary liaison with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and other benefit vendors.
    • Collaborate with benefits broker to evaluate and maintain a competitive portfolio of healthcare benefits.
    • Manage annual open enrollment process, including communication, system updates, and employee support.
    • Maintain and update benefits data in ADP platform; ensure accuracy and timely processing.
    • Manage all employee leave of absence requests, including FMLA, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
    • Develop and promote wellness programs to enhance employee engagement and health.
    • Provide day-to-day support for HR Generalists during high-volume employee requests.
    • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
    • Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits and resolve issues timely and effectively.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
    • 3–5 years of experience effectively managing U.S. employee benefits programs.
    • Hands-on experience with ADP benefits administration platform.
    • Prior experience managing Blue Cross Blue Shield medical plans.
    • Strong knowledge of FMLA, leave management, and open enrollment processes.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to proactively assist employees with benefits questions and assist employees in resolving complex claims issues.
    • Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment (2–3 days onsite).
    • Must reside within driving distance of Troy and Southfield, Michigan.

    Preferred Skills

    • CEBS certification or similar credentials
    • Experience with wellness program development.
    • Strong vendor and broker management skills.
