    Position: School Registered Nurse

    Location: Benhaven School, Wallingford

    Reports To: Director of the School **
    **

    Hours: 37.5 hours – 2.5 hours assigned to the Academy **
    **

    Salary: $50,000-65,000 annually **
    **

    Status: Full-time, exempt

    Purpose of Position: This is a Full-time, 37.5 hour per week exempt position. The School Registered Nurse provides unique oversight to students with autism and other disabilities. Reports directly to the School Director.

    I. Essential Job Duties

    • Maintains and monitors medication policies

    • Administers medications daily

    • Assists in tracking PRN effectiveness, documentation, & follow-up

    • Maintains medications

    • Documents in Kardex as needed and maintains Kardex

    • Updates Doctors’ Orders

    • Documents medical treatment of students on required incident reports and nursing notes

    • Keeps student emergency forms current

    • Reviews student admission files for necessary medical documentation & updates medical information as needed

    • Maintains documentation of annual physicals and tracks student follow up with parents/guardians as needed

    • Completes state and school district forms as needed

    • Assesses students’ health issues

    • Provides first aid to students

    • Obtains monthly student weights and annual heights

    • Tracks student immunizations and communicates with parents/guardians as needed

    • Communicates with parents/guardians regarding student medications & illness

    • Communicates with students’ physicians regarding medications and updates as approved/requested by the parent/guardian

    • Communicates with group home managers and nurses

    • Consults with teachers concerning students’ well being

    • Presents health seminars to school staff including mandatory trainings

    • Maintains AED

    • Attends placement PPT meetings & others as needed

    • Active member of Safe School Climate Committee

    • Participates in medical meetings with school and residential staff

    • Evaluates students in seclusion/restraint as needed

    II. Leadership & Team Skills:

    • Works collaboratively with teachers/related services/administrators, families, group home staff, medical providers.

    • Serves as resource to staff

    • Supports open and effective communication among all school personnel

    • Has experience facilitating and presenting trainings

    • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, organize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner

    • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, seeking support when needed and keeping their supervisor informed

    III. Positive Work Ethic:

    • Demonstrates a positive attitude, high level of energy and enthusiasm in carrying out responsibilities

    IV. Minimum Qualifications:

    • Current license from the State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health, as a Registered Nurse

    • Current with all health certificates, i.e. CPR, AED, First Aid

    V. Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with special education populations preferred

    • Demonstrates openness to learn about positive behavioral support, learning styles, teaching strategies and communication strategies for people with autism

    Must upload current nursing license and other required certifications.
