    DESCRIPTION: The Better Government Association (BGA) seeks a Social Media Intern for the Spring semester (Jan-May). We are looking for a bright, ambitious person who is in college or graduate school. This person would assist the Digital Engagement Team on special projects aimed at growing our audience, marketing our mission and engaging with our readers.

    The BGA is a nonprofit organization that combines investigative journalism, advocacy, and civic engagement to promote good government at the local, county, and state levels in Illinois. Offices are located in downtown Chicago.

    Here are some examples of the work one might do as BGA's Social Media Intern:

    -Monitor comments and mentions on the BGA's various social media channels -Conduct social listening and keep the rest of the team up to date with happenings in the sector -Perform periodic news round-ups around various topics or following our investigations -Help us grow and identify opportunities within our impact network, key contacts within peer organizations who will be the BGA's first point of contact when new investigations break -Analyze social media data and provide team with conclusions to forward our social media strategy -Assist with special projects on the Digital Engagement Team as requested

    SKILLS & INTERESTS: Candidates will ideally be current students in the fields of journalism, communications, marketing, or research. Applicants should have experience operating social media channels-primarily Facebook and Twitter- for a business or an organization. Candidates should also be tuned in to city & state government, culture, politics, etc.

    COMPENSATION: Paid stipend. Interns can make arrangements with their schools to gain academic credit for this internship. The BGA is happy to provide any documentation necessary for this process.
