    REPORTS TO: Leadman Plumber, Construction Manager, and Service Manager

    DEPARTMENT: Construction/Service

    Basic Function

    The basic function of the Plumbing Apprentice is to help the Plumber properly install residential/commercial plumbing. He is responsible for learning how to properly install equipment using the high quality standards established by BEYER PLUMBING. He is responsible for representing the company in a manner that promotes good relations.

    Essential Duties

    • Work under the direction of the Plumber.
    • Help install equipment properly the first time he is at a customer’s location/job site.
    • Be neat and clean at all times and keeping his truck and equipment the same.
    • Attend all training classes and training seminars to keep his expertise upgraded in his field.
    • Adhering to proper procedures in the use of paperwork. (work order, return material tags, etc.)
    • Take direction regarding scheduling from construction manager/service manager.
    • Keeping the Construction/Service Manager and Plumber informed at all times as to “where he is”, “where he’s been”, and “where he is going”.
    • Follow through on job problems.
    • Turn in all paperwork to office making sure it is filled out completely and accurately in the field.
    • Other tasks as requested by the Service Manager, Construction Manager, Project Manager, or President.

    Qualifications 

    • Hold Current Texas Apprentice Card.
    • Must have valid drivers’ license and a good driving record.
    • High School Diploma/GED.
    • Should attend Apprentice school.
    • Maintain OJT hours.
    • Learn Codes.
    • Learn to read blue prints & specifications.
    • Sweat Pipe.
    • Learn to silver solder.
    • Work independently with minimal supervision of Leadman.
    • Assemble work laid out by Supervisor.
    • Cut and thread steel pipe.
    • Learn fitting techniques.
    • Learn the mechanics and principles of Plumbing.
    • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
    • Be dependable and reliable.
    • Cooperate and coordinate with other trades.
    • Perform mathematical calculations.
    • Communicate with Leadman and Field Superintendent.
    • Keep jobsite clean and safe.
    • Perform tasks as assigned.
    • Obey OSHA and Beyer Safety guidelines.
    • 30 hours Continuing Education.
    • Ability to represent BEYER PLUMBING in a professional manner with customers, vendors, staff and the general public.
    • Work well under pressure.
    • Must have required tools.
    • Ability to handle difficult customer issues.
    • Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
    • Good communicator – works well with different customers and office personnel personality styles.
    • Keep up morale and maintain positive attitude.
    • Clean and organize trucks and check fluids weekly.
    • Be able to lift 58 lbs.

    Working Conditions

    This position works in the field.  Is exposed to driving hazards.  Adherence to OSHA and Beyer Safety Policy and Driving Safety Policy is vital.  

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands for this position are heavy.  Must be able to lift/carry up to 58 lbs. 

    Mental Requirements

    Self-motivated and able to handle rapidly changing priorities and several tasks simultaneously.  Must be able to respond to difficult situations with customers and co-workers with high level of professionalism.  Must be able to communicate effectively with vendors and co-workers.  Must be able to follow safety guidelines at all times. Must have ability to manage and lead effectively.

    Internal Relationships

    Communicates and interacts with employees on all levels in the office.  Sets an example for employees in the company.

    External Relationships

    The Plumbing Apprentice will have high level of contact with customers and vendors, and will be required to maintain professional communication and appearance at all times during work hours.

    Attendance Standards

    Maintaining and satisfying attendance requirements is an essential function of this position, including working all full-time regular hours as established for this position and any scheduled emergency overtime.  All employees in this job classification are required to satisfy this requirement.  This job classification may not include “light duty” work or allow unpredictable or unrestricted absences.
