    The HEALTH & SAFETY TECHNICIAN will be exposed to a wide variety of safety and health related aspects of the industrial minerals industry with a special focus on mining, processing, and distribution of minerals.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Under close supervision, assists in and support the identification, assessment, reporting and correction of workplace environmental factors, unsafe conditions and behaviors at assigned site.
    • Provide assistance with industrial hygiene surveys for contaminants. Provide written recommendations for controlling exposure by applying the hierarchy of controls.
    • Gain valuable knowledge of the industrial mineral mining and production process by participating in various quantitative and qualitative surveys to identify and control hazards found in various facilities.
    • Assist in collecting air, water, vapors, gases, and dust samples or other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
    • Assist in performing risk/exposure assessments, analyses of operational procedures, facility design, equipment and material, audits, and incident investigations.
    • Perform qualitative and quantitative assessments including repository fit tests, ergonomics, risk assessments, using standard practices and tools.
    • Assist in the development and recommendation of appropriate remedial action in response to unsafe conditions or behavior.
    • Assist site management in developing Health & Safety plans and remedial actions.
    • Draft appropriate reports and presentations for management.
    • Develop a solid knowledge-base for regulatory compliance requirements according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Sibelco’s internal policies relating to the Safety & Health Program.
    • Interact with individuals from all levels of the organization by participating in comprehensive Safety & Health Audits.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Required Skills

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety & health or other related field or 1-3 years of experience in a health and safety or related field required
    • Must possess the following skills: Leadership skills, assertive, innovative, self-managing, self-starter, positive inter-personal relationship skills, flexible, the ability to travel, strong written and verbal communication skills
