The Bio Skills Lab Associate plays a critical role in the successful execution of bio skills labs and events. This position is responsible for overseeing all phases of event coordination, from preplanning and setup to execution and post-event review, ensuring a seamless and safe experience for all participants.
The OLC Education & Conference Center (OLC), a 501(c)(3) organization of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS), is dedicated to advancing medical education in orthopaedics and related specialties. Through collaborative efforts, the OLC delivers high-quality learning experiences, including cadaveric skills labs, lectures, and both in-person and virtual training, to enhance patient care.
Pre-Event Planning & Coordination:
- Collaborates with clients to understand objectives, agendas, and specific requirements for each lab or event.
- Ensures all necessary equipment is identified, ordered, and scheduled for timely delivery.
- Partners with the lead houseman to confirm that all specimens meet course parameters and OLC standards.
- Produces and manages participant waivers, ensuring all completed forms are properly stored in the system.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and PPE; serve as the GBAC (Global Biorisk Advisory Council) representative for lab hygiene and safety.
Event Execution:
- Lead the setup and execution of lab activities on the day of the event.
- Provide hands-on support at any station requiring assistance and ensure the lab remains clean and organized throughout.
- Enforce OSHA regulations and safety protocols during all lab activities.
- Coordinate specialized demonstrations and ensure all technical elements are in place.
Post-Event Duties:
- Facilitate debrief meetings with clients and the OLC team to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
- Manually clean and inspect lab equipment; coordinate repairs in accordance with OLC and industry protocols.
- Oversee teardown and ensure proper disposal or storage of materials.
Team Leadership & Training:
- Supervise OLC staff and specialized contractors during events.
- In partnership with the Lab Manager, train new staff and contractors on OLC lab procedures and safety standards.

Required:
- Strong hospitality and customer service skills
- Proven ability to multitask effectively
- Availability for evening or early morning conference calls
- Ability to remain composed and professional in crisis situations
- Familiarity with healthcare-related instruments and equipment
- Proficiency in OSHA compliance and safety regulations
- Certification in safety courses, including bloodborne pathogens and cleaning safety protocols
- Responsible and efficient expense management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience handling and managing specimens and tissue
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Flexibility to work nontraditional hours based on customer schedules
- Physical capability to lift and carry items weighing 50 lbs. or more
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed

Salary Range: $26.00- $28.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
