    Summary of Position

    The Biopsy Bookkeeper plays a vital role in patient care by ensuring timely and accurate communication of biopsy results, managing medical documentation, and supporting follow-up processes for abnormal findings. This position requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a patient-centered approach to ensure each individual receives high-quality, informed care.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO:

    • Contact all patients promptly with their biopsy results and document communication accurately.
    • Answer a multi-line phone system with professionalism and care.
    • Schedule patient appointments across multiple clinic locations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
    • Maintain thorough records of all patient communications and ensure proper documentation is uploaded and marked in the patient’s chart.
    • Cross-reference and verify accuracy between paper documentation and electronic health records (EHR).
    • Make copies and scan pathology reports and related paperwork into the patient’s chart.
    • Review all documentation for accuracy, including verification of patient name, date of birth, and biopsy site.
    • Accurately input results into the Biopsy Book and Results Log.
    • Clearly and compassionately explain skin conditions to patients.
    • Make daily calls regarding pending skin cancers and other abnormal pathology results.
    • Follow up with patients to confirm that necessary treatment is scheduled or completed.
    • Generate and distribute Final Notices for follow-up when needed.
    • Fax pathology reports to providers, specialists, or other relevant parties.
    • Assist patients by answering questions, locating information, and offering general support with biopsy results or treatment concerns.

    WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Prior experience in a dermatology or medical office setting preferred
    • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
    • Strong organizational and documentation skills
    • Excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal communication abilities
    • Ability to explain medical terminology, especially dermatology-related conditions, in a patient-friendly manner
    • High attention to detail and accuracy when handling confidential patient records
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
    • Bilingual skills are a plus
