This position is a full time position. The job is a compound position consisting of two different roles; Duties and time worked are split between the two roles: Quality Control Cupping Lab Technician and Photographer/Videographer.
Quality Control Lab Technician - Estimated 10-20 hours per week
Primary Duties
Read cupping agenda and plan accordingly
Prepare production-roast cuppings and sample cuppings
Set up cupping table according to precise cupping standards
Take down and clean cupping materials
Work within and based on the schedules of the Coffee Buyer and Director of Coffee
The QC Lab Technician must be able to maintain attention to detail and be organized to the level that they can identify all coffees on a cupping table for the Director of Coffee during any cupping session. They must be willing to learn and take direction and should be curious and interested in the world of coffee, quality control and coffee buying.
While cupping days will be according to a schedule the length of each cupping day and each cupping session will vary according to the number of incoming samples, number of current production roasts, and special coffee events. Some days will have more down time than others and some days will offer more opportunities to take part in the cuppings than others. Therefore, it is important that the QC Lab Technician be flexible and be able to decide if/when to work on side tasks during lighter cupping days.
Photographer/Videographer - Estimated 20-30 hours / wk
Primary Duties
Be in cafes during prime times: Mornings and Weekends
Produce photos and video according to the needs of the Social Media and Marketing Department
Edit and curate photos and videos to be “post ready”
Approximately 30 post-ready social media posts per month
Approximately 6-10 promotional/education videos per year
The Photographer/Videographer must be able to balance being self-led with taking direction. They must be able to adhere to company vision and visual standards and be able to carry on creative discussions, storyboard ideas, and ask critical questions to ensure that their content aligns with the specific needs of any given project or media goal.
The Photographer/Videographer will maintain regular communication with other members of the Social Media and Marketing team as well as the Project Manager. They will also need to keep files organized and labelled clearly.
The Photographer/Videographer is required to visit all cafe locations more than once each month and is required to be on sites during one weekend day per week.
There is room for idea generation and self-leading in this position; Ideas for new media projects, new directions in tone, style etc. will be considered always and such idea generation is encouraged.
