General Description:

The role of the Trainer is to prepare our retail employees to serve espresso and coffee drinks at the highest possible quality while providing exceptional customer service beyond behind the bar. The Trainer works to help these employees stay conversant with customers on a deep level on all things coffee-related, from processing, farm knowledge, to extraction ratios, extraction techniques, brewing philosophy, and coffee history, thus contributing to a customer experience un-matched by any other specialty coffee roasters in America.

Responsibilities:

Maintain and update all training/educational documents and materials.

Teaches all introductory/classroom trainings for all new employees.

Onboard new hires into our system and properly organize legal information for seamless onboarding.

Coordinate scheduling w/ retail managers and other supporting trainers to organize Introduction to Café training for new-hires.

Teaches Barista training classes: initial training and support of evolution as baristas. Performs follow up trainings as necessary.

Cafe quality control - train, maintain, inspection, and improvements to evolution of standards (products and customer service standards). Each week, visits each location to do quality checks on each employee, pour-overs, espresso and milk-based drinks. These evaluations are used to identify areas/specific employees who need more help to maintain standards.

Works on shift with team members behind the bar during opens, closes, and mid-shifts.

Covers shifts as needed to help support café scheduling needs.

Develop, implement, and teach classes/workshops offered to the public, including but not limited to: coffee brewing/pour overs, espresso extraction, milk steaming, and latte art.

Travel between all Bird Rock Coffee Roaster cafes in San Diego and schedule visits appropriately based on cafe/staffing needs.
