    Bittersweet Farms, a world-renowned leader in serving adults and adolescents with autism located in Whitehouse, Ohio, is seeking a Direct Support Professional – Animal Barn Specialist to assist with development and implementation of the barn vocational and habilitation programs. The position will be responsible to provide skills assessment and enhancement based on each participant’s individual needs. He or she must work to ensure the health and safety of participants while providing an environment that fosters both growth and development. A successful candidate will possess the ability to teach participants about proper care of all barn animals and maintenance tasks. The Barn Specialist will continue to assist with any and all direct support needs within the organization. Responsibilities for the position include: ● Orientate staff on tasks and responsibilities to include care of the animals and maintenance of the overall barn area ● Act as a liaison to the Staffing Manager by reporting any staff issues promptly ● Perform a variety of duties related to organizing task schedules, participant task assignments, and prioritizing projects within assigned area ● Maintain inventory records, needs of clients, needs of animals, and supplies. ● Possess understanding and knowledge of how to properly care for animals and prepare for showing (Mini and micro-mini horses, Sheep, Goats, Ducks, and Chickens) ● Assist with preparation and organization for special events in the community (i.e. Fairs, Shows, Parades, etc.) ● Mentoring new staff in the barn area on participants and procedures ● Maintain a positive and friendly attitude toward co-workers, staff, participants and outside community The right candidate must have 2 or more years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities/autism, experience with creating plans and activity schedules preferred, High School Diploma or GED is required, experience caring for animals preferred, and a valid driver’s license with eligibility to be insured.
