    Under the direction of the Sr. Billing Manager, the Certified Coder will review and provide feedback on coding usage, accuracy, opportunities, and documentation. The Certified Coder will also work with insurance and patients to assist with claim resolution and accounts receivable management.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Review provider documentation and coding for accuracy (CPT, Dx, Up-coding, Down-coding, Modifiers, documentation)
    • Provide feedback to RCM and Clinical leadership regarding coding opportunities in a professional and organized manner
    • Provide annual coding updates that impact providers and clinicians
    • Work with insurance companies, payers, and other third parties to ensure timely submission and correct payment on claims
    • Contact payers and/or patients to obtain the required information to resolve claim issues and denials
    • Review EOBs and payments to ensure the correct processing of claims
    • Review and process insurance and patient refunds
    • Work to establish a formal provider audit process
    • Field and resolve patient billing inquiries received through multiple channels including telephone, email, and portal messages, among others
    • Other duties as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Coding certification required
    • 3-5 years coding experience in mental/behavioral health setting preferred
    • 3-5 years experience required working with EHR/RCM software, working and resolving insurance claim issues (A/R), payment posting, and patient outreach

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILL

    • Experience providing direct feedback to providers and clinicians on coding opportunities
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations
    • Outstanding communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with patients, provider partners and colleagues
    • Open to professional and clinical feedback and interested in working in a supporting and collegial environment.
    • Flexibility to adjust to a dynamic work environment.
    • Must value operating in a collaborative and cooperative environment.
    • Ability to show initiative, good judgment, and resourcefulness.

    *The target range for this position is $50,000-$70,000. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors, including certification, experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations .
