    We are now hiring Premium Auditor Trainees to learn premium auditing skills while providing exceptional customer support for our policy holders. As a Premium Auditor, the state of Montana is your office. You will get to travel throughout your assigned region for field visits, taking in the scenery and beautiful landscape. Your customers span across various business types and industries, giving variety to every single day. Once your field work is complete, head back home or to the office and get lost in your audit spreadsheet, balancing your day with both analytical and customer-focused enrichment. The best part is you have flexibility and control your audit schedule.

    The focus of a Premium Auditor is to be an integral part of service team and play a key role in guiding customers through the audit journey. Auditing doesn’t have to be scary—in fact the relationship building piece of this position is critical. Premium Auditors meet with policyholders in the field and virtually to review payroll records and other documentation to ensure appropriate workers’ compensation classifications and accurate payroll distribution among varied job exposures for our large, complex, and diverse business risks. They focus on communicating effectively with policyholders and agent partners, acting as a liaison between the insured and Montana State Fund.

    We will provide the training, but need you to bring customer service experience, accounting foundations, and a desire to learn and grow.

    This position is a field role requiring regular and frequent travel throughout the assigned region. Candidates must reside within Bozeman or Billings, Montana (or surrounding areas) to be able to meet the travel requirements of this position. A company vehicle will be provided for job-related travel.

    Required Skills

    What you will do:

    • Premium auditing : Conduct variable complexity premium audits for a variety of Montana State Fund policyholders. Learn and apply understanding of related unique exposures, specialized coverage endorsements, accounting practices and specific classification code usage. Support the Other States Coverage Program (OSC) through gaining knowledge and awareness and in multiple state audit application abilities and requirements.
    • Customer education and training: Educate policyholders on applicable MSF payroll reporting requirements, policies, rules, regulations, and laws to ensure policyholder understanding of the workers compensation system and the services Montana State Fund provides. Provide meaningful audit experiences that enrich the customer experience and support policy retention.
    • Policy collaboration: Collaborate with internal Montana State Fund stakeholders, to ensure payroll and all other policy information is accurately reflected on both the audited and future policy periods.
    • Audit coordination: Select, schedule and complete audit assignments and compute audited subject payroll at customer sites. Verify insured’s business operations, legal status, job classifications and payroll distribution among work exposures by reviewing policyholder’s records, interviewing owners, and worksite observation. Obtain all necessary and pertinent customer documents to achieve thorough work file documentation and complete all required steps.

    Required Experience

    What you will need (minimum qualifications):

    • Associates degree in accounting or related field and two (2) years’ experience in a customer service environment OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Intermediate level knowledge of Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
    • Valid Montana driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

    Preferred:

    • Workers’ compensation insurance experience, including knowledge of NCCI rules and classifications.
    • Accounting, bookkeeping, finance and/or payroll experience.
    • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
    • Detailed, analytical and action oriented.

    Compensation: 2D- Starting salary begins at $55,500- $69,300, depending on qualifications and experience.

    Opportunity for growth : This position is designed to be a training position, with accomplishing the training and demonstrated skills the individual can promote to a Premium Auditor I and II position with the company. Potential earnings as a level I and II are up to $76,600-$88,000, with a maximum salary of $104,700.
