    Job Summary: The Development Manager is (1099) contractor which is responsible for establishing and executing Blavity.org’s donor growth strategy. Through sponsorships, charitable fundraising, business development activities, and community engagement, the Development Manager will create and manage a portfolio of community, corporate, and individual donors. The ideal candidate is committed to social justice and supporting the Black community, is experienced working with diverse teams, has a proven track record of managing charitable organizations, and is effective at building strategic relationships and networking. 

    This contract will be overseen by the Vice President of AfroTech. 

    Responsibilities

    Fundraising & Business Development

    • Create and implement a Blavity.org Development Plan, including a roadmap to achieving fundraising goals
    • Support the development of a compelling story that resonates with different audiences and donors
    • Lead the business development cycle, including identifying prospective donors, building a diverse pipeline and securing donations 
    • Manage Blavity.org donors, including contract negotiation, due diligence and reporting
    • Oversee potential donor programs, including the planning and coordination of donor events and fundraisers
    • Build and maintain relationships with corporate sponsors, major donors and community leaders
    • Be a passionate advocate of Blavity.org, and work to connect the community, donors and partners with the mission and vision of our organization
    • Represent Blavity.org at events as a public speaker and organizational ambassador

    Donor Stewardship & Management

    • Oversee the Blavity.org donor experience, including onboarding, communications and reporting 
    • Create and execute a Donor Engagement Plan that includes strategies for donor retention and continued commitments
    • Maintain consistent communication with donors to ensure timely acknowledgements and updates through email, newsletters, meetings and annual reports
    • Create and execute donor recognition and thank you programs
    • Serve as point-person for day-to-day questions and inquiries and from donors

    Operations & Project Management

    • Implement a CRM database to manage the donor pipeline
    • Maintain complete files and records in support of Blavity.org’s annual audit and consistent with industry standards
    • Identify and manage updates to the Blavity.org website
    • Establish a performance management system to track progress towards fundraising goals
    • Create and maintain the Blavity.org development budget
    • Implement project management tools to support day-to-day development operations
    • Support the development of the Blavity.org Annual Report
    • Support the hiring and onboarding of other Blavity.org staff
    • Provide regular updates to the Blavity.org Board of Directors

    Qualifications

    • Years of Experience: 8+ years experience in charitable fundraising, nonprofit development and communications; prior leadership experience at a leading non-profit organization
    • Education: Preferred BA
    • Technologies: Proficient in CRM / Salesforce and google suite 
    • Competencies: charitable fundraising, business development, donor management, grassroots campaigns, contract negotiation, community relations, communications, project management, event planning, storytelling
    • Travel: 20%
