    Job Description

    Blazerjobs, in partnership with the school district in De Soto, KS, is actively seeking a qualified and experienced Teacher for the Visually Impaired to join our team for the 2023/2024 school year. This is a part-time position with the possibility of renewal for the summer.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments.
    • Assess students' needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) based on their abilities and goals.
    • Adapt and modify instructional materials and techniques to meet the unique learning needs of visually impaired students.
    • Teach essential skills such as Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, adaptive technology, and independent living skills.
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure the successful inclusion and participation of visually impaired students in the general education curriculum.
    • Utilize assistive technology and adaptive equipment to enhance learning experiences.
    • Conduct assessments, track progress, and provide ongoing feedback to students, parents, and the IEP team.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's or master's degree in Education or a related field.
    • Valid state certification in Special Education for the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification in Kansas.
    • Recent experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired.
    • In-depth knowledge of visual impairments and specialized teaching strategies.
    • Familiarity with Braille, adaptive technology, and assistive devices.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
