Job Description
As Product Counsel for our Square Banking team, you'll have a broad and diverse range of responsibilities providing legal guidance on product development and new programs. You will support our commercial Checking, Savings, and Credit Card products. You will partner with our teams to develop new technologies while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will also be called upon to negotiate complex commercial relationships that contribute to our products' success. As we expand our offerings, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate impact. You will report in Product Counsel for Square.
You will:
Provide guidance to product, engineering, design, and marketing teams on issues related to our commercial financial services products and features throughout the entire product development lifecycle
Remain up-to-date on relevant industry, consumer protection, advertising, and privacy laws and regulations to provide an ongoing ability to provide sound compliance advice
Draft terms of use, product policies, and disclosures, and implement related processes
Draft and negotiate commercial and intellectual property agreements affecting our products and services
Provide ideas and insights into how we can work within the law to create amazing product experiences for its customers
Qualifications
You have:
5+ years of combined, relevant experience in top-tier law firms and in-house legal departments, preferably working with banking, financial services, fintech, or similar companies
Familiarity with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
Familiarity with depository products or debit/credit card products strongly preferred
Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance for creative products and collaborators
Work in an evolving and growing environment that is prone to changes
Excellent commercial negotiation and drafting skills
A JD and active membership in at least one state bar
